My 2001 La Sabre coolant fans will not kick on... Recently overheated and checked the relays - what else could it be?

Recently my car would not start after driving and turning off for a few minutes.. All dash lights come on but it will not turn over. After sitting for an hour or two it will start. Did that twice in 2 weeks, then while driving down the interstate it started to overheat and as I was going to pull over, the temp went down but when I then slowed down for the off ramp the car completely died. The water in the reservoir was boiling and the car started but would not stay running. I had it towed home and now have no clue.

Maybe your thermostat is bad, stuck inclosed....this would boil water before the thermostat and not get to the temp control for the fan, also, ckk bottomhose for collapse.Have you ever changed hoses? Ever put in new thermostat?. They do go bad.

Its the distributor module. The module in the dist. that tells the plugs to fire. When it gets hot it shuts down till it gets cool again. Had that same problem on several cars.

Crank sensor. Next time it does this spray some water on it and see if it cranks. Its by the crankshaft pulley towards front of car.

SOURCE: overheating after 5 miles of driving. Fan not running

If she paid someone to replace her radiator she should take it back. There are temperature relays around the fan I believe and the fans are not working. These are right in the area of the radiator. Someone must have disconnected the fan or the relays were failing before the radiator was working. Either way, the car is not cooling and she sought a solution to that problem. She was charged and the problem is worse. Go back to the radiator place.

Over heating

If it's constantly overheating I would start by checking to make sure you have the correct fluid amount. Then I would verify that it's coolant and not just water. After that I would run it and see if the thermostat opens once it starts to get hot. If not it may be bad and have to be replaced. If it does open, then I would check to make sure your fan(s) are kicking on.If the fans aren't kicking on it could be a relay or it could be the fan itself. If the fan clutch went out then it wouldn't be able to cool the way it's supposed to. If all that checks good then I would be suspect of the water pump or a plugged heater core.

Put a new hydrylic fan on 2001 Lincoln Ls now it still runs hot, fan isnt kicking on what could be the problem?

Yes we had a Saturn which we thought was running hot and the gauge was always in the centre or over but we had the fan checked and it was working. Our thermostat might of been faulty but we never had a overheating issue..My Mechanic said that we should get a coolant flush that might help.

My 2001 dodge durango is overheating an leaking coolant from a round plug type thing in the corner on the passenger side near the windshield

What exactly is the "round plug type thing" near the firewall [passenger side]? Is it a sensor of some type? I, too, have a coolant leak here on my 2001 Durango; its tucked in rather tightly near the hood/firewall corner. My electric fan is not kicking on; vehicle overheated tonight. (4.7 liter)
