2001 mitsubishi eclipe heater does not blow hot air, my gauge reads a little below normal temperature whats the problem??? I just changed my thermostat and radiator and coolant temp sensor. at time when i am in traffic my temp gauge begins to rise, yet as soon as i start drivin it drops back down. did i buy a faulty thermostat???
I have the same problem, although my heater does blow hot air. I found that turning on the air-conditioning, prevents the overheating, because the cooling fans go on to cool the air conditioning condenser, which is back to back with the radiator.
I also found that the cooling fans on the radiator don't go on, until the temperature is above the center on the dashboard gauge, and when they do go on, the fans turn slow, compared to when they turn on from the Air conditioning.
Now I'm suspecting that the coolant temperature sensor may be dirty, malfunctioning, or have a bad contact.

I'm experiencing something similar. I don't get any hot air out of the driver side vents (defrost, vent and floor). The air coming out of passenger side has been hot, however that too is now going colder. Temp runs fine, just as normal as it always has. I also have a problem with keeping it set to defrost. If it's on vents or floor, it's no problem (except the cold air), but once the idle has settled down and I switch it to defrost it seems to **** all the power from the car and stalls it out.I'm experiencing something similar. It could be very well your water pump from the sounds of it. When was the last time you had that check or replaced? That would be my next guess to the problem...what's your mileage on the car?

there are two hoses running to the heater radiator from the engine cooling system , one has a inline tap that controls the flow of hot water to the heater , check the tap is open , may be the control cable is not opening the tap , or it frozen and must be replaced.
Check if the engine temperature gauge indicates a normal reading. If it's normal, your heater core may be blocked, or the temperature control mechanism controlling the flap allowing the hot air is not working. If you can open up the hood and find the two hoses leading to the passenger compartment, see if they're both hot to the touch. If they are, then the doors are not moving properly diverting the air through the heater core. If it's cold then the core is probably blocked and may need replacement.
When your engine thermostat has failed or is sticking open, the engine fluid isn't able to reach a temperature that lets your heater core get hot enough to produce worthwhile heat to blow into the passenger's compartment. It is also not good for your engine to run below design temperature.
If you have a dashboard temp gauge, if your thermostat is stuck open, that gauge will probably stay in the cold area.
I would think that that is the problem, and I would have the thermostat changed (not a very difficult or expensive job).

My 2005 Nissan Sentra 1.8s with 55,000 mi. blows cold air from the heater. Coolant not circulating in engine. Lower hose stays cool to touch. Both heater hoses cold. Changed thermostat - didn't fix it. Coolant not leaking or dirty. None in oil - no oil in radiator. Changed worn water pump belt - pump spins freely with no noise or resistance. Cooling fans come on after warm-up. Temperature gauge stays in normal range then jumps to hot and back again. Coolant good to 10 below - didn't freeze here yet. No other problems or repairs to car. Afraid to drive and make worse. Help!
