my 98 accord seems to be driving fine, then as i slow down or start to accellerate the car shuts off. some times the radio fuzzs out and the brake light just comes on and the car shuts off. other times the check engine light, maint. light, and others flash before it cuts off. this is when the car does not want to start up as fast.my 98 accord seems to be driving fine, then as i slow down or start to accellerate the car shuts off. some times the radio fuzzs out and the brake light just comes on and the car shuts off. other times the check engine light, maint. light, and others flash before it cuts off. this is when the car does not want to start up as fast.

Your vehicle may be part of a 2002 honda/acura recall. Faulty ignition switch!! Typical symptoms are: Random stalls, hard start, no spark, power loss (symptoms progress in hotter weather). When the vehicle stalls/shuts off while in motion, usually the speedometer drops to "0" while in motion. Some warning light not lit when ignition is set to "on" (chk engine/ABS/Brake etc.). Call your local dealer with your VIN# on hand and check if your vehicle is part of the recall. Refer to faulty ignition switches, affected years (1998-2002 models), accords/preludes/pilot/Odyssey/Civic/CR-V and various Acura models.
Low coolant will make the AC work harder but should not shut the motor off. Start by checking the battery, plugs, plug wires, distributors, fuel filrter, fuel injectors and idle air control valve.
make sure you are not using the valet key. if still goes on take the key to a honda dealer and let them reprogramme the key,. most dealers do it for free.
when temp rises, it slows/stops electronics. Inside your distributor there is a ICM chip. That's usually done the trick at my shop I used to have. Oh, other thing it could be is cat converter- is there exhaust (full) coming out?
Hi..
The first step I recomend for try to fix your car is:
Get the car Scanned for see if there any present CODE.
The code help to have IDEA where or what is the problem.
If you don't want to spend money,
Go to ADVANCE Autoparts, Auto zone autoparts and some of the NAPA's Autopart, they make Computer diagnostic with out charge for that is only a free service.
If they don't found any code. I RECOMEND
Replace the FUEL PUMP Realy. "(MAIN RELAY)."
Because is one of the 90% of the problem with shutdown or non starting conditions.
The relay is located under the left side of the dash. The relay
Is bigger than a regular relay. colour gray. You can get at any autoparts.
OK... I hope this help to start diagnostic your car.
Thank you for use fixya.
