I have an A4 and did this to re-program my key:

1. used the key to start the car...then turned it off
2. put the key in the driver door (door closed)
3. pressed the lock button on the key fob once
4. turned the key to lock the door.

This is basically the steps in the owners manual, but the car must be started with the key first, and the key must be in the door lock before pressing the lock button.

The following instructions are to reprogram your switchblade key fob.

1. Take one key and insert it into the ignition. Turn it one click forward.

2. Roll down your window just in case. Step outside the car, and manually lock the car with the key you want reprogramed, ie put the key in the keyhole and turn to lock. Leave the key in the lock

3. Now press the unlock button on the key in the lock. The lights should flash.

4. Now press the lock button on key fob, and then unlock it again.

5. Remove the key from the lock and the key from the ignition, and try it's function.

1... Put your key in the ignition and turn it all the way without starting the car
2...Hit the unlock button on you remote (the one thet you put in the ignition)
3... Push the lock button on the drivers door then push the unlock button
4... Take the key from the ignition and test your remote

This worked on my 06 A4 and my friends 02 Golf without having to have a spare key

Possibly the module in either the B or C pillar on right side. Best to have the dealer check it.

hi 8,
so you want to do it yourself... if to program car key of 2002 audi a6,
i think SBB key programmer is ok, it's a handheld car key programmer, and not very difficult to use.
and VVDI 8.6 is also a good tool for you, it's a multi-function tool specially for audi vw cars, but it's a little expensive, so...it's up to you

good luck and greetings

Audi revised the specified cam belt change interval from 120k to 80k, after a class action lawsuit was brought against them.
However, they have been known to break at around 65-70k. I always replace them earlier as a precaution..

My infrared remote does not work. I have an Audi A6 1995

Do you have memory seats as well? If so follow these steps I am going to refer to the keys as A and B as you have 2 of them
1) Unlock car with key A
2) Turn ignition into ON position with key A and roll down the window
3) Point Key B at IR Sensor and Click twice (perform both clicks under 5 seconds)
4) Turn off ignition and pull Key A out
5) Turn ignition into ON position with Key B
6) Point Key A at IR Sensor and Click once
7) Turn off ignition and Pull Key B out

Key A should be programmed as the Master Seat Program and Key B should be programmed for the Secondary seat program
So when you set your memory seats Key A is for Memory Position 1 and Key B is for memory position 2
if you don't have memory seats then you only have to point the receiver at the sensor and click once. That should just sync the IR Frequency and Codes
