Volvo S40 2ltr turbo diesel 2006 judder at speeds between 60 and 80 mph.

My Volvo develops a judder at about 60 mph which can be felt in the pedals and vibrates the gear stick. Feels like its coming from the front near side wheel. Car has 120,000 on the clock, new tyres and brake pads and discs all round. Braking at speed feels very unstable and makes the steering wheel shake. Any suggestions please!

if the brake discs is fine as you've said, it could be two things your discs needs cleaning and refacing to clean and smoothen the surface and second your parking brake shoe needs to be checked, cleaned or adjusted since the wheel had seized on hand brake have it inspected to know the real problem....

hi.

if you do not have any juddering when you are not braking, then it sounds like you either have a slightly warped disk, or an internal fault in the ABS unit.

the most likely is a warped disk, the warp may not even be visible (my last one wasn't) but can still cause a nasty judder. take the disks off and get them measured properly at machine shop.
if they are ok, then the ABS system will need to be checked by a qualified mechanic with the specialist equipment needed to test the system. the system is NOT user servicable. unfortunately this would not be something you can do yourself.

i would recommend getting this problem sorted out as soon as possible, as any braking system fault carries the risk of brake failure.

hope this helps.

Black smoke is usually a sign of unburnt fuel. Make sure the air and fuel filters are good. Hope this helps..

Although you didn't mention it, the speedometer probably bounces also. Replacing the speed sensor on the side of the transmission should solve both your problems. Good luck

Engine indicator is on, turbo does not work if speed over 30 mph

the turbo is the problem and needs replacement.  It's sadly expensive so try a junk yard or a turbo rebuilder.
