Zx2 2-0 zetec engine new timing belt and drive belt

I set the gears like the book says and have spark to the plugs. Top dead center set and no firing to cylinder. The timing belt broke while driving. Has this caused damage to the head that I don't know about. I seem to have compression to the cylinders. I have tried to start the car with the valve cover off to see if it is timed right. I am getting nothing. Can you think of anything to do or try next.

Are you sure you are not 180 out on crank..crank turns twice to 1 turn of cam/s..top dead center #1 cyl. w/ both valves shut-[compression stroke] is what you want to start. some require special alighnment tools to alighn upper to lower''...kev-mn.

Finding timing mark Isuzu 6HE1 engine

Its the same on all engines .On the harmonic balancer witch is a fancy name for the pulley on the front of the crankshaft .
If you mean the actual timing gears their will be small indentations on both gears crank and cam they need to line up exactly in the middle .
A tip take out all of the spark plugs find #1 cylinder bar the engine over with your finger over #1 cylinder plug hole .
When you feel pressure you are on the compression stroke.
Take a strew put it down the hole and turn the engine until its at the top of the compression . TDC top dead center .
Install the timing gears so they line up in the middle and you are in the ball park .
Most engines timing is set fire BTDC before top dead center like 10 degrees or so because the firing needs to happen before the exhaust valves open thus a loss of power ATDC after top dead center .
Have fun

Crank and flywhleel timing marks

You can find the timing mark on the end of a crank shaft by looking for an indented dot which marks top dead center.
A flywheel is balanced and does not need a mark. However if the wheel you refer to is a cam gear (one or two gears depending on how many cam shafts your engine has) look for 2 dots with a tooth grove between the two dots. A matching drive gear will have a single dot aligned with a tooth on the drive gear. When put together the single tooth marked on the drive gear must fall into the grove marked the the 2 dots on the cam gears.

If you are just trying to time an engine, the belt drive pulley mounted to the crank shaft will have a single indented line. The line can get filled with dirt so you can't see it. Wipe it clean and fill with grove with something to highlight the groove, as with a white or yellow crayon or a dob of bright paint. Associated with the belt drive pulley, there should be a metal plate with line marks spaced on it, with 0 degrees (top dead center TDC) marked on it, When the engine is running, using a strobe light connected to your number 1 spark plug you will see where the timing mark on the belt drive pulley is compared to the metal plate with the timing marks.

Just put in dist. back fires through carb.

Sounds like you have the distributor on tooth advanced. Pull the cap and with the timing mark at TDC make sure the rotor is pointing at #1 spark plug wire. If not, either pull the distributor and set it so it does point at #1 or rotate the wires one spot.

Engine stalls on Isuzu I-370 truck after warm up

The Cam sensor usually senses the position of the timing belt or timing chain gear and tells the computer when #1 cylinder is at top dead center. In other words, when #1 cylinder comes up. Crank sensor tells the computer when to fire the spark plugs in the rest of the cylinders. In other words, as the crank shaft goes around it tells the computer when each piston comes up so it can fire it's spark plug

so replace the crankshaft sensor

How to set a timing belt

Factory timing for all 90-93 normally aspirated Celicas (ST, GT, and GT-S) is 10º before top dead center (BTDC). This means when the crankshaft angle of the number one cylinder reaches 10º, the spark plug will fire. It fires before it reaches top dead center (TDC) because the flame front takes time to fully combust and push the piston downward. this site might help u .http://www.toyotacelicaonline.com/timing.htm
