2005 Mazda tribute, after driving 60 mph on the highway for 30 mins I came to a stop light and the car turned off. I'm able to restart it but after another 30 mins of highway driving the car would turn off again. Mazda dealer replaced fuel filter, spark plugs and cleaned the throttle body and it didn't fix the issue.

Try accelerating at different speeds, for example push pedal further down, or ease into it real slow & let it climb, and see if it still dies at 2000 rpm, just to see if pedal position makes any difference to see if maybe TP sensor has bad spot.

SOURCE: My 2005 mazda tribute brake lights will not turn off

The stop light switch is sticking. If it's a mechanical one that is operated by the movement of the brake pedal the replace the switch. If a hydraulic one is fitted, remove one wire and see if the stop lights go off. If so then replace the hydraulic switch.

SOURCE: TRIBUTE TURNS OFF

suprisingly it could be the TCC Solenoid on ur transmission. it could be locked in a gear and when u go to change the gear it stalls out. sooner or later the clutch in the auto transmission will let go and allow you to move. its a long shot. does this happen after a dead cold start or have u been running the car for a while?

Mazda Tribute 2002 engine cuts out randomly

I had a Mazda 626 with a similar problem, the car seemed to 'shut down' with no warning, even at highway speeds, as if I just turned the ignition key to 'Off'; After trying to fix it unsuccessfully by replacing several electrical parts, the problem was found to be a defective ignition switch, it was replaced and the problem went away.
