The gauges on the instrument cluster goes dead. All the gauges, check engine, oil, & air bag lights all go dead. I think its a short because it comes and goes but I'm not sure where to look, and i don't want to buy another cluster & have the same thing occur. does anyone have a solution?

have you got a dimmer switch on your model to dim the dash lights. if you have it may be faulty. link the cables together if the lights work the switch is faulty. if you have not got a dimmer switch
your printed circuit on the back of the dash may be faulty or the plug in the back of the dash is not pushed all the way in. hope this helps

If the transmission is staying in second gear ( limp mode ) at the same time, the problem is the output speed sensor on the transmission.

I have the same problem with great shaking while stopped idling, but no engine light. It is worse when cold and worse when in gear. I have a 1999 Cirrus with the 2.4L engine. It works great and there are no error codes. What I have discovered is that there is something called a flex plate that goes between the torque converter and flywheel and it was cracked. It must be easy to access to inspect (more work to repair though) as the garage didn't charge me for the diagnosis. They said that the crankshaft rear seal was also pushing out. You can do both at the same time once you get it apart.

according to my info, a 1996 Cirrus with a I4 2.4L (the eighth digit of your VIN number should be an X) engine carries 5 qts. of oil

please advice, have you solved the problem? I have the same one on my Sebring. Many thanks.
