The instrument cluster on my 2000 Chrysler Cirrus doesn't work

The gauges on the instrument cluster goes dead. All the gauges, check engine, oil, & air bag lights all go dead. I think its a short because it comes and goes but I'm not sure where to look, and i don't want to buy another cluster & have the same thing occur. does anyone have a solution?

A mechanic would test the power and ground circuits at the cluster plug, but it may be tough to fix if you can't make the problem happen on demand.

SOURCE: so i got a 2000

If the transmission is staying in second gear ( limp mode ) at the same time, the problem is the output speed sensor on the transmission.

SOURCE: 2000 chrysler cirrus problems

I have the same problem with great shaking while stopped idling, but no engine light. It is worse when cold and worse when in gear. I have a 1999 Cirrus with the 2.4L engine. It works great and there are no error codes. What I have discovered is that there is something called a flex plate that goes between the torque converter and flywheel and it was cracked. It must be easy to access to inspect (more work to repair though) as the garage didn't charge me for the diagnosis. They said that the crankshaft rear seal was also pushing out. You can do both at the same time once you get it apart.

Do I need a new cluster in my 2000 Chrysler Intrepid ES?

a fuse blew
replace it.
scan the PCM see what fails ?
sensors dead or lost comm to IP cluster.

car drives ok all gears in transmission shift in drive?
not autostick mode test full auto.
if tranny is ok, the speedo sensor VSS is ok.
so.

check engine lamp out driving?
off and all fuse good
id say the cluster has COMM errrors
the connector (10pin/) on rear loose?

scan the cars dash oBD2 DLC 16pin port.
see what's wrong?
speedometer, VSS is not dead
odometer, this is locked into PCM storage and is not dead
and temperature , ECT sensor is not dead
all 3 are not dead. (no way at all this can happen)
lost comms from pCM cluster is dead. (PCI bus?)
scan it.

On the 2012 Tahoe, you had mentioned that the reason the oil gauge was not registering was due to a blown fuse. Is this fuse located on the main fuse box? If not, where.

NO vin told , no engine told. and is a engine cluster question.
oil gauge was not registering?
is this the OIL LED LAMP failing , not a gauge.
or the OIL change due lamp?
so is a real needle gauge, yes I see it.

the answer is scan the PCm, (obd2 16pin port)
see it has errors DTC for this. or comm errors.
how about comm error pcm to cluster, oops/
this is no 1990s car. at all
scan it or dance in circles.
or RTM read the manual
read it see how the gauge works,
and the sensor must be good.
OP other post says engine sounds good;, gauge dead.?
tell all that works and does not work is best for sure if EFI or and kinds of electrics dead.
or get any shop to diagnose it. and even fix it.

How do I check and replace engine oil sensor.

Knowing how these gauges work , I'd say you have an instrument cluster problem not oil sender unit. 2003 - 2006 GM had bad stepper motors in the instrument cluster . If there was a problem with the oil sender the gauge would default to zero .
Engine Oil Pressure Gage
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the engine oil pressure as determined by the powertrain control module (PCM). The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the engine oil pressure. The engine oil pressure gage defaults to 0 kPa (0 psi) or below if:
?€¢
The PCM detects a malfunction in the engine oil pressure sensor circuit.

?€¢
The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM.

If you don't know what class 2 serial data communications are ,google it. How to repair GM Instrument Cluster Speedometer Gauge Stepper

My gas gauge needle goes to full then back to empty and just doesn't work at all. Also my odometer won't work. Any ideas what would cause this?

GM has a Problem with their STEPPER MOTORS.... You need to have your Instrument Cluster REBUILT or you can do it yourself if you know how to SOLDER..

Make sure you purchase the X27.168 Stepper Motors

My temperature guage doesn't work at all

If you know the engine is warming up, and the cooling system is full, and you replaced the temp sender for the gauge and not the one for the engine computer if equipped, the problem may be in the instrument cluster on the dash.

2000 chrysler cirrus, oil light flickers and stays on when car stopped. goes off when driving

hi this could be a few things, first the obviouse one, have you checked to see if the oil in the engine is at the right level, secondly, the oil pump might be about to give in, you will have to get it checked out, thirdly, oil pressure switch if none of the abouve are apparent, then it might be the big ends ( crank shaft where the piston rods connect to it) might be worn , sometimes this will also have a knocking noise with it, but not all the time...hope this helps

Oil light flickers when in idle. Oil on dip stick measures fine.

install a mechanical guage to test the actual pressure, if its fine the sending unit is faulty, if nor remove the oil pan and check the oil pickup for blockage,

All the gauges seem to work except the speedometer

On my 1999 Cirrus the speedometer would work sometimes and other times not. Now not at all. The cruise control always works though. I have a shop manual and found that the instrument cluster has self diagnostics. Press in the digital odometer button and hold it. Then turn the ignition on without starting. The needles will then move to different positions, then each indicator light will come on one at a time. If the speedometer needle doesn't move during diagnostics, then you need to replace the circuit board that attaches to the back of the cluster. You can order one for just over $200 at http://www.discountmoparparts.net.
