Hello! I have a 911 993! several months ago the alternator failed, so Formula Motor Sports in NY changed the battery and alternator for a quite steep price.. However, not long after such service, I started noticing that when the car starts, the gauges will be all down, and the battery LED light will light up.. I thought it was an electrical ghost of some sort, and I starting making sure that I locked the car, v.s leaving it unlocked.. this appeared to resolve this behavior, however recently it has started doing this again, and cycling up the automatic lock-down, is no longer fixing the issue.. The 911 is a Tiptronic. Basically, the car once is started, all the dashboard gauges are down, the tiptroninc is down and all the AC blower controls are also down. The car will only work on automatic mode, but when I accelerate, the LED light indicator for the battery, lights up. The battery and the alternator are knew, just changed a few months ago! Any help! Please! Thank you so much!!

If the key had gone faulty, the key code must be re programmed on the vehicle computer. This can be done only using a PIWIS tool, available at the dealer or at a qualified Porche garage.
Try also the following reset:
turn ignition on,
turn off.
remove
the transponder from the column
push any button on the fob within 6
seconds.
This procedure will reset the key synchronizing again with the vehicle computer.

I'm certain from what you say, you need a new battery. It's 4+ years old now and that's about how long they last. As far as the code goes, I'm surprised you haven't lost it already. Most shops will change the battery and keep the code up by powering the car with an additional battery during the swap. If you lose it though, the code is usually included with the owners manual and as far as I know, it is only for the radio. Don't drive the car like this...with a bad battery, it puts an excessive load on the alternator and will kill it as well if you do.

If the battery is VERY dead it may take quite a while jump start the car. You may have to run the car with the good battery for five or ten minutes to get enough charge in the old battery to start the car. Other wise a very dead battery will just "soak up" the electricity from the good battery. If your battery was old to begin with it may be unserviceable. I would take the battery out and take it to an auto parts store that can charge and test it. They will usually do this for free.

SOURCE: car remote keys won't open the car
Look in the manual to see how to make the car "learn" the remote's code. Failing that, look for a box with lot of wires under a seat or find where computer that controls that is in your car. Press the learn button on the box, and push the door lock button on the remote a couple times.
