Hood latch only works occasionally

I have 1995 BMW318SI and the hood will only eventually latch shut after many attempts. What is the most likely cause?

First verify if latch release is electronically operated or cable operated. If cable, push the latching mechanism back and forth, verify that it springs back into place. Then look at the shaft that the latch hooks to on the hood. Check if one is bent or see if the hood is not properly aligned on the hinges. You might need to raise the latch assembly so it hooks sooner on the hood.

My hood latch on my 95 f-150 pickup truck is not working

If you can get it up. lube the catch mechanism, above and below. Lube the hood hinges at the rear of hood, work it up and down a few times before you try closing.
I hope you haven't bent anything at the rear hinge points, or the front catch?

The cable broke that releases the hood on my 1995 Honda Accord and now the release latch inside the foot well does not work and the hood does not open. Is there an emergency way to open the hood? I have a...

There is no emergency latch. The best way to get it open is to remove the cable from the release latch in the footwell, then use a pair of pliers to pull the cable and open the hood. You might even have to strip the cable covering back a little to get to the cable.

How do i get the hood open on a 1995 chevy caprice 5.7 if the cable is detached from the latch???

Have a helper push down on the hood close to where the latch is. You, under the front bumper, look up at dead center of hood. If you can see and reach the latch where the cable attached, either grab it with pliers and pull latch in same direction as the cable would and tell your helper to stop pushing down and the hood should pop up. A long screwdriver to pry the latch might work if you can't grab it with pliers.

Hood latch on 95 Toyota Tercel won't shut.

What I would do is spray both the latch and release cable end with a good penetrating fluid. Be quite liberal with it and work the latch open and closed and the cable until both move freely and easily. It may take more than one application of fluid to achieve this. Once it is working freely the spray both with a good lubricant, preferably one with "white lithium grease" in it. Work it into the latch and cable and that should solve your problem. Then once or twice a year give them another application to keep them working. Hope this helps.

You should be able to remove the grill and reach in and use a screwdriver to slide the clasp over.

1995 lexus ls400 can't lock hood

Could be that the latch is already latched, or just needs a little lube (wd-40 works great) Have someone pull the hood release and look at the latch see if it moves or if it look to be closed you can ulatch it with a pen or pencil while someone pulls the hood release if that is the case.

2000 Honda Prelude hood won't fully shut

Cable is sticking, look at hood latch and push down on the thin cable. It will allow the hood to shut. my 96 Accord does the same thing.

Hood release is broken...need to open hood

A hood release works with a cable that pulls the latch open. if you have a long flat head screw-driver you can try to spring the latch itself through the front grill.
