Cooling fan not working properly

I removed the fan from the housing and hooked it with a switch directly to the 12 volt battery and it works perfectly. When fan is installed in the car with the engine running and the ac on, the fan bump starts and then quits. AC works fine. Also when the key is placed in the ignition and turned on the fan also bump starts and immediatelt stops. What do you think the problem is. Thanks. Lew

sounds like the fan controller switch in the panel has gone nutty. I would take the car to the dealer and let them diagnose the issue, they are best when it comes to knowing your car the most and in diagnosing problems with them better than just a regular joe blow shop that works on everything and doesn't specialize in any particular issue.

Sounds like either the a/c relay is bad or a/c compressor clutch is not disengaging. Look on the compressor for an electrical connector, and if you can, unplug it. That should stop the battery drain. I would suggest taking the car into a good a/c shop to have the compressor looked at. The clutch can be replaced without having to buy a new compressor.

Blower not working

Tell us what make an model of vehicle you are using in your description of the problem. Blower not working can be caused by:
1. Blown fuse
2. Bad fan switch
3. Bad resistor speed selector unit (changes voltage going to fan motor.
4. Melted or bad connector, usually between switch and motor.
5. You have lost the ground from the fan going back to the battery. ie, a bad connection.
You will need a volt/ohm meter after you check the fuse.
Make sure you have battery voltage (about 12 volts) coming to the fan switch. If you do get 12 volts, follow it in the circuit going to the blower fan until you stop getting 12 volts. Where it stops is where the problem is. You can also start the test right at the blower fan with a meter to see if the fan is getting 12 volts and work backwards towards the switch.
Most likely cause: Bad resistor pack or connectors melted going to it, followed by a bad fan switch.
Good luck!

My cooling fan isnt getting power,i have checked and double checked all relays and fuse. i tried jumping the fan switch and fan still has no power.............thourghlyconfused!

Be sure that your fan is properly grounded. The surest way to test is to take a positive 12 volt wire directly from the battery to the fan to ensure that it has actually failed prior to buying a new one. Check fuses under the hood as some vehicles have fuses under the hood, not all are located in the fuse box. On some rare occasions, there could be a fusible link providing power. That type of connector is replaceable, but you have to cut the link out and re-connect a new one once you conclude that the link has failed.
Good Luck.

I have a jetta 1998 and my wipers and my a/c is not working and ialready check the fuses

separate problems. find a good size wire with 12 volts around the steering column or fuse box one that only has volts when key on run wire with12 volts to new switch from parts store and the other side of the switch o the windshield wiper motor hook to positve wire on wiper motor touch each wire till you find the right one don't touch black wires usually negative. you may want to run a wire straight ot he wiper motor to the positve side of the battery first to be sure the motor isn't burned up get you a cheap tast light at the parts store to check foe voltage they are worth their weight in gold as to the a/c does the fan inside blow? if so run a wire from the pos side of the battery to the wire that hooks to the a/c compressor if it clicks its working if not run a wire and switch just like the wipers. on the a/c get someone to sit inside turn key on all a/c switches on you should hear click if fan and compressor work and still no cool you need refrigerant bye from sunny austin tx

The starter on my 1995 saturn sl2 stopped working i can still push start the car but in the same day the heater fan and cooling fan stops working but then starts working again when the fans don't work the...

You have a electrical power shortage, when componets demand power it's not there [ that's why some componets slow or stop working ]. Start by cleaning the battery terminals and testing the battery to see if it holds a proper charge [ after fully charging, let the battery sit for a few hours and check the voltage = it should be at least 12 volts. If not, replace. Then check the output of the charging system = mininum of 13.8 volts to maxinum of 15.3 volts, & up to 78 ampress when @ maxinum charing. Then check the starter draw = should be around 260 amps, if it's higher then 300 amps. then replace.

Heat ac fan quit blowing fuses ok what next?

Hi. You will need to acquire a volt meter, and test the blower motor for proper voltage(12v). If the motor is registering a 12 volt current(at contacts with the switch activated), simply replace the fan motor. If not, replace the fan relay, or resistor switch.

Fans on radsiator wont work

check to make sure you have hooked up the fans properly. if you can ... test the fans by giving them 12 volts directly from the battery. also check that the fuse was not blown in the fan circuit. if it has and you replace it and it blows again ... you will need to track down the short circuit in order to fix the problem.

My fans that cool the engine do not come on. The car seem to cool down when driving but the temperature goes up when I am sitting still. The check engine light is on steady.

Hi!

The first thing you're going to want to do is get that trouble code read. Some auto parts stores do it for free or you can buy a code scanner. Likely culprit is going to be the cooling fan itself, the relay, fuse, or the wiring/connectors leading to/from the fan and PCM. It could also be caused by a failed coolant temperature sensor.

So get that code read and start some diagnostics. I would suggest you start by checking fuses, relay, wiring. Then use a digital volt meter to see if the fan is getting 12 volts. Then try hooking the fans up directly to the battery to see if they work.

If you need more help, just let me know. Good luck!
