Transmission Fluid level Nissan altima 1998, automatic

Use Nissan Altima Automatic Transmission Fluid and it should hold about 10 quarts total. I would fill with 9 quarts and start the engine and circulate the fluid. Check the fluid level and add what you need.

obviously refers to auto trans , could just need the trans fluid level topping up or even changing , if this does'nt resolve the problem then a more in depth diagnosis would be required at a repair shop as could be the ECU for example but do the fluid checks and go from ther ,keep me posted

Im assuming you mean that the vehicle wont move when put it in gear and its an automatic! Check the transmission fluid level if it is ok check if vehicle will move in any other gear reverse 1 or L etc. If not it maybe a torque converter issue and maybe best for a transmission shop to sort

check for low fluid level in the gear box.

A: Output shaft revolution signal from revolution sensor
B: Engine speed signal from Engine Control Module (ECM)
C: Gear ratio determined as gear position which TCM supposes

If the actual gear position is higher than the position (4th) supposed by TCM, the slip ratio will be more than normal. In case the ratio exceeds the specified value, TCM judges this diagnosis malfunction.

If the fluid is red, it's automatic transmission fluid. If it's anything from honey-colored to black, it's engine oil.

Check both via the dipsticks if you can't visually identify the fluid. Depending on how long it's been leaking, it should be evidenced by a low level of one or the other.

Start off by checking your transmission fluid level and making sure that it's up to par.If your automatic fluid level is to low it will not engage and build up enough pressure at all, resulting in no movement.However, if the fluid level is up to par then you more intensive issues, more than likely involving a rebuild of your trans.I hope I could help!!! Transmission Fluid Replacement Replace transmission fluid as follows:

1. Operate engine until reaching operating temperature.
2. Turn OFF engine.
3. Remove the drain plug.
4. Drain the transmission fluid into a suitable container.
5. Install drain plug.
   • Torque to: 22-29 lb-ft. (29-39 Nm)
6. Refill fluid to specified level.

Manual States - Genuine Nissan Automatic Transmission Fluid "Matic D" , Dextron III , or Mercon is Acceptable . Brand is really a personal preference . cheers .
