Vacuum leak in 2003 ford expedition

Hissing sound until I push down on the brakes and then it stops. It is easy to push down on the brake so after reading past forums its not the brake boost?...... The check engine light is on so other forums tells me is it the vacuum???? Is this correct? Is this serious issue? Can I still drive the car? Is this a costly issuse to fix?

The power brake booster has a bad valve. I can't suggest where to find a new valve for it, but you can buy a rebuilt replacement. They are usually not hard to put on.

Engin starts revs to 2500 then drops and dies, also brakes very difficult to come to a complete stop.

This sounds like a bad vacuum leak, the brake system uses vacuum to power the brakes, if theres not enough vacuum to brake booster then the pedal will be hard to push and stop the car, open the hood and start and listen for a hissing sound, follow vacuum leaks and look for broken or aff vacuum lines. hope this helps.

Replaced rear brake pads, now there is a hissing sound coming from brake pedal when i start it , come to complete stop and after i turn car off .what is the hissing or air pressure release sound coming...

There are 2 things that can use vacuum near the brake pedal. If you have cruise control, there is a safety switch on the pedal to shut off the curise when you apply the brake. This switch may be leaking.
The other part is the brake booster, which is actually in the engine compartment but bolts to the firewall, and your brake pedal mechanism pushes into the booster. You will need to get your head under the dash with the engine running and press on the pedal to locate the leak--on the switch or on the wall.

There is a hissing sound that is coming from the firewall behind the brake that stops when I apply the brake pedal.

your brake booster is leaking internally. this is a one piece, non serviceable component, and the entire assembly must be replaced. good luck!

A vacuum leak. Look & listen for hissing noise where rubber or nylon lines come through firewall under dash near brake pedal. Also look under hood at large hose going to back of brake master cylinder, power brake booster.
