SOURCE: Describe your 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser timing

Replace the belt at 100k with a new water pump pulley and tensioner. It would not be a bad idea while u r in there to replace the center motor mount. When the mount fails it is a pricey fix not a bad Idea to replace it since you have to remove it to do the belt.

Timing jumped and the car stopped,i turned the engine and it was free spinning, does this mean the head is messed up

There are two types of engines in this regard--interference and non-interference. Many newer engines are now interference types to increase performance, but this means that the pistons can hit the valves causing major damage when the timing belt breaks. Non-interference engines will suffer no real damage when belt breaks, so you need to get the engine type from under the hood on a data plate and google search your exact engine. Good luck.

Timing belt broken

Most likely it is an interference engine. How fast were you going when the belt broke? Had a 2004 Dodge Neon with the 2.0 and the timing belt broke going less than 10 MPH and the engine was fine.

300M 3.5 V6 2001 CHRYSLER JUMPED TIMING BELT OR BROKE CAR JUST QUIT AT STOP LIGHT

This engine is what is known as an interference engine, so if the timing belt lets go like this you most likely have bent engine valves and or piston crown damage. The best advice i can give is have a new belt, water pump and automatic tensioner pulley installed and see if it starts, you may get lucky, my wife did when hers let go a year before I meant er. You can purchase a timing belt "kit" with all the parts here is the part number and price.
ACDELCO Part # TCKWP295 TIMING BLET KIT- INCLUDES WATER PUMP
BELT KIT,TMG INTERFERENCE ENGINE APPLICATION PRICE $184.00 USD Source for parts price and number www.rockauto.com

Replace timing belt

Yes, you still need to check for valve damage, but check with a compression test of the engine. Any problems within will be revealed by the compression test. Don't pull the head off until you have to. When the belt breaks on an interference engine, just a small turn of the crankshaft can cause a piston to strike a valve.

I belive the timing belt in my 2002 2.4l Voyager broke while driving 70 mph. Is this engine an interference engine???

I "think" it is, there is an updated tensioner also, be sure to replace the water pump. the engine may be trashed.

"1996 plymouth voyager timing belt" How do I know

Hi,
get the engine number plus vin number and go to a Chrysler dealership. They can put the info in a computer and give you the correct answer. The SOHC Chrysler 2.4 is a "free-wheeling" engine.

Your drivers handbook should also, (i believe) have that information.

Good luck.

Timing belt broke. does it have an interference.

No your engine is not an interference engine you should have the chrysler 3.0 liter engine i believe in your van, I changed a timing belt on one of those 2 years ago because the belt broke, after installing the new belt the van runs fine, so to my knowledge that engine if you have it IS NOT interference you should be able to install a new belt and it will be fine....

How to adjust a tensioner on a 2001 chrysler voyager

You mean your belt tentioner, serpentine belt, it is not adjustable if your belt is coming off you have a bad tentioner, bad pulley or your power stering pump is leaken and your belt is soaked, if oilly firts found your leak (most common is a hose from reservoir to pump) then replace belt with a cheap belt (had lost of trouble with Life time or hi dollar belts), in the mean time also inspect your tentioner if ani play side ways replace it, also remove idle pulley and spun it close to your ear, if any noise replace it, you may get away with a single item changed, but for trouble free time, replace all items: belt tentioner ($38) idle pulley($25) serpentine belt ($25)

Was driviing on the highway..my 2000 Chryler Voyager 3.4lter engine quit on me..checked the timing belt..and it was broken...WHAT HAPPENS IF THE TIMING BELT BREAKS? does it shove the rod into the...

Chrysler did not have a 3.4L engine, your 2000 could have a 2.4L 4 cylinder or a 3.0L 6 cylinder engine, both engine's are INTERFERENCE ENGINE'S, which in the event of timing belt failure, piston to valve damage will occur, the cylinder head will have to be remove to replace bent valve's, with bent valve's engine will not start, due to no cylinder compression.

1997 plymouth grand voyager v6 3.0L broken timing belt

I had the same thing happen, No, I was told this is not one of the engines that allows the piston to contact the valves. I replaced the timing belt 2 years ago and had no valve problems.
