Re: back seat of Olds Alero won't secure to mounts
Push the seat back then clip it into the front clamp by pushing down and back at the same time. It is not easy. You can lift the edge of the seat in the front to be sure you line up the seat bracket with the mount on the floorboard

Most cars of that era, have two latches for the bottom of the seat usually about 1/4 distance from the edge of the seat. You push down and back on the front edge of the seat and it unlatches.then lifts out. The seat back usually has two tabs or sometimes bolts that you can get to when the bottom of the seat is removed.
The alero was one of the most troublesome cars GM ever made. That sucks, I know. But the good thing is that the security has been such a problem that people have found ways around it. Go to this link for a ton of info and a good permanent solution to your problem.
THE OLDSMOBILE ALERO DONT HAVE A EXTERNAL ANTENNA MAST. THE OLDS ALERO HAVE WIRE GRID ANTENNA INCORPORATED INTO THE DEFOGGER GRID IN THE REAR WINDOW.THE GRID ANTENNA HAVE A REAR WINDOW ANTENNA MODULE MOUNTED BEHIND TOP OF THE REAR SEAT BACK. THE RADIO ANTENNA CABLE GOES TO ANTENNA MODULE LOCATED TOP OF THE REAR SEAT BACK.
LIFT THE REAR SEAT BOTTOM CUSHION UP SHARPLY AT THE TWO FRONT CORNERS UNTIL THE TWO THE TWO CLIPS COMES OUT OF THE BODY,THEN SLIDE THE SEAT CUSHION FORWARD AND OUT OF THE VECHICLE.AT EACH LOWER CORNER REMOVE THE NUTS SECURING THE TWO REAR SEAT BACK TABS.WITH THE NUTS REMOVED PULL SEAT BACK FORWARD ENOUGH FOR THE TABS TO CLEAR THE STUDS.THEN PULL THE SEAT BACK SHARPLY UP AND TOWARD THE INSTRUMENT PANEL TO DISENGAGE THE UPPER SEAT CLIPS FROM THE BODY.REMOVE THE SEAT BACK FROM THE VECHICLE.INSTALLATION IS THE REVERSE OF REMOVAL.
I would suspect the ignition switch. Luckily, it's mounted on the instrument panel and relatively easy to access.
Another angle to consider is that a security system is disabling ignition. If the lock symbol in the instrument cluster is illuminated, it could be a problem with the factory system. You could have an aftermarket system too. Check that the key fobs are say GM on the back.
There shouls be 2 straps inside the trunk at the top. Both on the driver side but one is for the left side and one for the right side seats. Pulling on the straps releases the 'lock' that should then allow you to pull down the seats from the back seat area.
