I did not get a warning on mine it just died right in the middle of the highway. Cost for parts,repairs and tow $ 580. Have it check out and see if may you need to go ahead and replace.

i have lots of ideas. but your problem is the transmission! you need to have your transmission fluid and filter replaced ASAP your problems with letting off the gas pedal to let it shift may be a bad transmission modulator valve on the transmission itself. i do recommend you have the transmission fluid and filter replaced and add the lucas transmission treatment added into your transmission fluid change. it[lucas] costs per bottle $12.00 thats a very small price to pay compared to a transmission replacement! the transmission also has to have vacum,which the modulator valve on the transmission provides. not sure of the price of the product where you are but will say around $30.00 u.s. currency. thank you for choosing fixya.com i look forward to assisting you in the future.

it could ruin the battery.because the car is running of the battery.thats why it died. it also could have blown the motor because there was no coolant cerculating in the engine.

Check the chassey grounds, by the battery, starter and transmission. Clean the ground straps, removing where they connect to the car, wire brush these areas... any that you see, even check by the fuse box and computer. Reconnect and be sure so clean the battery posts too. Always remove the negative terminal first and install last. Be sure you have your radio code before removing the battery terminal cables to clean those.

I've seen this problem before in other cars. Your electric fuel pump is cavitating and instead of putting just fuel into your fuel line it is putting in an air fuel mix. It will only get worse. To be sure check your fuel line pressure. I'm sure you will find it low. If it is replace the fuel pump.

Check your RPM sensor.  Mine did virtually the same thing.  It was NOT the fuel pump like Audi dealer said-after I repaired it.
