If the alarm red light on your radio is on even though you removed the add-on alarm years ago, it is possible that the alarm system is still active and causing a drain on your battery. Here are a few things you can try to fix the issue:
Check the wiring: Make sure that all of the wiring related to the alarm system has been properly disconnected. It's possible that some wiring may have been missed when the alarm was removed, which could be causing the issue.
Check the fuse: The alarm system may have a dedicated fuse that is still active and causing a drain on the battery. Check the fuse panel for any fuses related to the alarm system and remove them if necessary.
Disconnect the battery: If you're unable to locate the cause of the issue, you may need to disconnect the battery to stop the drain. Be sure to follow proper safety procedures when disconnecting the battery.
If these steps do not fix the issue, it is possible that there is a problem with the alarm system itself or with another component of the car. In this case, it is recommended to have a mechanic or dealership technician diagnose and repair the issue.
hi michelle
is the alarm system after market or did it come as a factory unit
you will need maker of unit to disconnect the horn from alarm system and still have it work on the steering wheel horn button
Why? I would not start messing with a factory ubit. It's highly recommended to leave it alone. I have 2 alarms on my car without any problems, the ford alarm can be integrated without any problems. Thos e factory alarms are a major part of your wiring system and can lead to a very big problem if you start changing them. And that leads me to ask why would you want to disconnect it in the first place? If it's acting up then look at the fuses and make sure they are all good and making good contact on the prongs. Make sure that all sensor contections are clean and plugged in completely making contact.
It sound the alarm relay or the alarm module is broken. Can you find the fuse for alarm system? If you can disconnect it. You can find the alarm module under dashboard, disconnect it. Hope it can help
Your alarm is keep your system from starting. When the alarm system fails, you have 1 of two choices, if it is a after market alarm then just disconnect the alarm, if it is a manufacture alarm then you will need to take it to a company to have then replace the alarm or disconnect it. Doing so yourself you can hurt your vehicle more then help it
Disconnect the fuse for the alarm system or unplug horn relay system to change battery if you unplug fuse you will have to reset the alarm, be sure you know how to do this before disconnecting the fuse to the alarm system. Hope this helps.
you should be able to however im not sure if it is associated with the on board system if all else fails reconnect it and maby change the batteries in the remote for a starting point
The sounding alarm maybe a security system installed by in the truck. Disconnecting the battery will only temporarily solve your problem, but will resume once you reconnect the battery for electrical power.
You must find the keychain/remote of the security system and disable it. If you are unable to locate this, you can have it disconnected by a qualified automotive electrician.
Word of caution though, if you are using the keyless entry system with the security system, this will be disabled until you install a receiver with such function.
