This problem is very common. Shops charge alot for a simple fix in most cases. The most common cause of this problem is your EGR valve which regulates the gas and air mixture. Hope this helps.

Sounds like a loose ground somewhere . I would recommend you take it to the dealer, there may be bulletin for this issue or a veteran tech may have come across this problem before.
I am assuming you mean you loose power steering when the steering wheel locks up, which would be a normal event if the engine dies. Same goes for the battery light since the alternator would stop charging the battery.
Someone will need to figure out if you are loosing fuel or spark when the engine dies, then troubleshoot the problem. It may be difficult to find if the mechanic can not duplicate the problem in the shop.
I had the same problem, if your car is rather new model, what I mean is if it is mostly electronics than this is a problem... Lights that go on and off is indication of a short somewhere, if this is caused by a ground wire being loose than the problem can escalate to more serous problem... like burning of components, what happend in my case is there was a loose ground wire, this burned out my ignition, the ignition made all the electronics shut down, including head lights at 9pm in the evening...
when you say stalls, do you mean shut off of just get low on power?
my check engine light comes on and then oil press light come on and the car shuts off but the lights and music stayed on.
if its that the car needs oil and shuts down to protect itself but it will turn on minutes later.
if stalls periodically, shows check engine light and the car looses a bit of power, in the engine, :
1. your coolant may be having problems getting to the engine in the way it was met to get to the engine
2. the belt might be a bit off and that could be why you get the slipping feeling
3. your exhaust may be a bit clogged. or your engine may need cleaning
i had both problems my car shut off and my engine was slipping. my EXPENSIVE but great machanic found out it was my oil level and my coolant was rusty and not getting to the engine. now she drives like the original 97 olds 88
You have a loose ground or a bad instrument panel connector, tracking down these kinds of issues is very expensive and time consuming. I must warn you that any thing you do that involves the airbag is very dangerous, and should not be attemped by anyone but the new car dealer with proper repair manuals and test equipment.
