My 1996 Lexus ES300 has sprung a leak in the power steering. I have heard that this is a common problem for this vehicle but it didn't say if it was usually hose related or pump related. I have a reliable mechanic but he cannot get to me for about a week. It just started to leak although I can't be positive it hasn't been leaking small amounts for awhile. I filled the reservoir and by the end of the day I heard the noise again. It has been high 90's for a few days and prior to the heat wave I haven't had to add any fluid. Am I looking at a new pump or could I be lucky enough to just need a hose?

Sounds like loose hose lines.
As far as the thermostat goes you usually can tell by the temperature gauge going up past its usual spot it would normally warm up to.
It would go up some then when you reeved the engine it would return to normal.
when it starts doing that you should replace the thermostat, and flush the radiator.
Do not wait thinking it will be ok since it went back to normal because the next time you maybe out in the middle of no where and it breaks down where you can`t even get signal on your cell phone. Belive me if theres no tower around theres no signal LOL. well hope this helped you and stay safe not sorry.

probably not. you won't know though till it is taken apart. the worst i think is the calipers are frozen. but most likely you can swap the hoses out and it will be fine. good luck and if you have any more question please ask
