have you tried to check for vlotage at the same terminal shile cranking the engine? cause some of them are triggered through the ECM, and if you dont have volts while cranking then i would start from the ECM.

I looked on page 12-22 of a Haynes manual. The Chassis elecrtical diagram shows power could be coming from the ECU - Engine Control Unit.

I have a 1996 Jeep Grand cherokee with the 5.2l v-8 engine. Last week I started it, and it ran for about 1 minute before shutting off. The engine cranks, but no ignition. I replaced the Crankshaft position...

Time to meter voltage. Start with the 12V circuit. Are you getting voltage at the coil. Does the voltage fluctuate when the engine cranks? If yes to both check the high voltage circuit. Start with the coil then the distributor then each plug. You should be able to find where the spark is failing.

Only get 2 seconds of battery power to ignition coil. what's wrong?

Have you considered the ignition switch itself? It's quite possibly the contacts in the switch.

1996 jeep cherokee sport

You need to replace the crankshaft sensor, it's mounted behind the engine at the top of the bell housing on the drivers side. It is a pain to do, but a very common problem.

My 1996 jeep cherokee sports is turning over but not starting. No voltage to input side of coil. ASD relay seems fine, crankshaft position sensor??

The CPS is one of the first places to start, but remember that the signal goes thru the ECM first, which ultimately supplies power to the coil, I've had to replace the ECM on my 96 Grand Cherokee 4.0 3 times. The dealer wanted to replace the crack and cam sensors, but it was only the computer that was bad.  Sorry I cant give you any definitive answers but I did get it to turn over when I hit the computer with a wrench!
