I can not go from parking to drive

Yes, that was too much. The neutral safety switch costs around $70 (if I remembered right). I bought it from my Mazda dealer and asked them for a diagram to locate it. In most cases, my Mazda dealer has been helpful in provide diagrams for this minivan. The switch is located underneath the battery (you'll have to remove it) on the transmission. Make sure it is aligned right when you replace the switch; otherwise it won't find neutral, and you'll have to use the bypass switch on top of the steering column to start you engine.

Sounds like you have lost the transmission. There are bands that clamp down to lock the transmission into the gear you want. They are controlled by a hydrolic unit located in the trans. The first thing I would do is have a shop pull the trans oil pan and see if it is full of chips of metal. If so you definately have a problem. At the same time they can look at the bands and see if one of them is broken. another cause would be that metal has gotten into the hydrolic valve body and frozen the drive band portion so it will not function. You may also get lucky and have it be an internal adjustment of the drive band. Good Luck, RAC

The neutral saftey switch is on the front of trans. To remove, unscrew the four
screws that hold up the plastic cover, remove it then look at front of
tran it will be right there.it will have the shifter cable attatached to
it. Loosen the bolt an make shure to put the van in nuetral there will
be a small hole at the top of the shifting nob put a small brill bit
through the hole an through the saftey switch this will aline the two
an should start.
Good luck (remember rated this post).

I have a 1989 5-series BMW which sometimes stalls after changing from reverse to drive. It also sometimes shakes when first driving in reverse before changing to drive.
