The 1400 Bakkie was assembled by Nissan in Rosslyn, South Africa (Nissan)

1.4L engine a very small pickup truck and tiny obscure engine
that wiki fails to identify.
buy the manual for NISSAN.
it is not a diesel ,and this list is all 1.4L listed by maker,1.4L and in year range.

The GA14DE does not have hydraulic lifters, so special shims are used to adjust the valve clearance.

CGA3DE DOHC, 1,4K Sold as but is 1.348L
data super hard to source on the engine.
one photo shows head cams over valve stems, no tappets at all
see photo, I see bucket lifter there, so are shims.

The Nissan CR14DE motor does not have hydraulic lifters, so special valve lifters are used to adjust the valve clearance.

so knowing this engine fact and the exact one makes this more easy

Not all modern engines need you to set the valve clearances. Most engines use oil filled 'tappets' that self adjust the clearance as the oil temperature changes. Depending on which engine it is yours has a lot of the time you can only check the valve clearance but not adjust it.

we will need to know the engine and year and if you have hydraulic tappets or not.

As a rule of thumb most valve clearences are .010" inlet and.012" exhaust ( hot) but I suspect yous will have hydraulic tappets which take up the clearence as soon as the oil pressure comes up

The tappet clearence should be in the owners handbook but it's a bit early a tappet noise from the engine (2006) ! Check oil level and change if it's overdue a service is definately worth a look ! Good luck

o.25mm when hot this is for inlet and outlet

the check prosidure requires you engine be cold engine at top dead center at #1 cylinder and cams timing markes aligned to markes. check only intake and exaust lifters with lobes in the released position. intake is .15-.25mm and exaust is .25-.35 mm. rotate the engine 180deg. to check the remaining cylinders. if exsesive play is exsperianced. You must remove cam shafts, and add a new shim to remove the clearence. this includes the timing chain.most engine machine shops have these shims.really suggest you go online for a sevice manule. you can ruin this engine if not performed properly. This is a zero clearence engine! (no clearence between valves and pistons.) any more questions i can help you with just send to my e mail.
