I can manually push the trunk down but it won't latch. Automatic buttons won't work either to open or close it.
When you pull the trunk handle back towards yourself to open the trunk, it may be sticking in that position, so give the handle a tap to pop it back into its original position. Then shut the trunk and see if it has latched.
Here's how I fixed it: I held down the trunk handle while turning the latch (on the trunk) with my screwdriver. That allowed me to move the latch so it would shut. Before the latch was stuck and wouldn't let me shut the door. I also turned the button for using automatic doors off - it's on the roof of the van up front next to the buttons you push when opening the doors automatically and says, "on - off". My owners manual didn't tell me what that button meant!

SOURCE: town & country trunk will not open automatically
With the trunk open take a look at the lock mechanism (have someone activate it a fes times and watch what it does) it has an electric solenoid that works the lock if it has become disconnected, re-connect it if it is connected, spray working mechansim down with wd40 or other good lube spray. If operation is still not restored then the solenoid has gone bad and needs repalcement.

Testimonial: "I was thinking that, and I the screws that hold it in through the bottom are rounded off, so I will have to get them out another frustrating way."
