I have a 1998 Buick LaSabre. We just had it in for repairs to the elbow coming off the water pump. While driving it the next day, it will missing especially when idle. Then the Light in the oil gage meter started blinking. We checked the oil and it's full. What could the problem be now?

A flashing/blinking light is not good! a steady one while no good is a warning to check it out. blinking is trouble.
get it looked at asap by the shop! they may have dislodged a wire connection while doing the repair. hopefully.

had same problem i would check the Idel Air Valve and also check all of your vaccum hose lines makeing sure there are no cracks or splits in rubber connectors if there is repair immediatelt because over time they start to dammage the internal parts fo the engine and if youve replace tps mass air etc. sounds like a vaccum hose problem

SOURCE: diagram for 1998 buick lasabre serpentine belt

I found the diagram in my owner's manual.
I replaced the belt on mine just 2 days ago. All you need to do is remove one bolt from the lower motor mount and remove the spacer. After you relieve the belt tensioner, the belt will slip right through the gap. Don't forget to support the engine before removing the bolt. As a backup I took a photo of the belt with my digital camera beforehand... just in case.

Have someone pressure test the cooling system - you likely have a head gasket leak

1998 buick lasabre water pump bearings

The pump bearings are sealed and not replaceable. A new water pump must be installed. If the bearings are making any noise, probably bad.

Belt tensioner has hairline split causing water to leak and overheat.2000 buick lasabre 3800 engine,380 motor

yes belt tesioner is internal part of cooling system it has two plastic elbows with o-rings that crack crumble and deterioate haven,t seen crack in aluminum part though but remove belt by releasing tensioner remove alternator and idler pulley then remove bolts holding tensioner assembly to head and block this entire thing can be purchased thru napa i know but do not reuse the plastic elbows and make sure to lubricate the o-rings on new elbows so when istalled puthe the elbows in the assembly first lower it in place lined up with waterholes and gently push in and slide in place

97 buick la sabre , I have removed all bolts on

You are correct it is connected with two plastic elbows the will almost always break when you remove the assem. If you have removed all the bolts you should be able to wiggle and work it loose by gently prying on it, just look at the direction of the elbows and work it in that direction, but i highly reccomend replacing both elbows.

1997 BUICK LASABRE

Yeah on that vehicle there is a 90 degree plastic elbow that goes from the belt tensioner to the intake manifold and on both ends there are O-rings. Definitely need to repair this as soon as possible. Not sure your technical abilities but you would need to remove the serpentine belt and alternator and a bracket if I'm not mistaken. Usually takes me about 45 minutes to repair but I have been doing it for awhile. Good luck and Happy wrenching!!!
