Hi from uk from what you say happened sorry but it sounds like the lead from battery is connected to the wrong solenoid terminal go back to car and remove earth lead from battery !! now on the solenoid there aretwo terminal postswith nuts on them ? and also a small terminal either spade or push on post terminal this terminal has the thin wire attached ? this is the key start energizer which energises starter solenoid when key is turned ?? ok? now on one of the larger terminals with nuts there will be a either a braided or copper strip already fitted and attaches to actual starter ? forget this terminal do not put any other wire/cable to it ! now the other terminal with nut you should only have a thin cable(not a wire) with an eye let terminal ? connect this cable to terminal and also the positive + lead from battery make sure nuts secure cables ? ok ? now with ignition off reconnect the battery leads to battery in this order ! connect positive 1st and secure then connect negative /earth cable and secure ok important advice! never remove positive cable from starter or whatever untill you have disconnected! that is why you had sparks ?? always when working on electrics remove neg lead b4 positive and replace pos b4 neg ok?? now all done? your sterer should operate on key only? hope this explains clearly? best wishes from lancashire uk

Assuming that the solenoid was installed correctly I have to say that you purchased a faulty solenoid.

Starter wiill not even engage turned the key on and nothing ran fine when I parked it and got up in the morning and wont even tur n over. Brand new battery

Hmm, possible problems:
- starter or starter solenoid defective.
- neutral switch or wiring thereto defective. Shift selector has to be in Park or Neutral to start. Sometimes brake pedal has to be pressed also for starter to turn.
- remote starter system defective (if you have this) This would be hard to diagnose.
I would first confirm if the starter works by putting 12V directly from positive pole on battery to positive connector on starter solenoid (use jumper cable, and wear goggles in case of massive sparking when you accidentally touch ground.)

97honda civic wont start.got fuel,spark,and compression

I would do a once over. Make sure your timing belt is installed in the correct pos. I would also make sure your distributor is installed correctly, off one gear and it won't start. Make sure the wires are on the correct post and plugs. Good luck

1995 honda civic won't start even with a jump

Well the battery and alternator would not have anything to do with the engine starting.
You would need to check the ignition system to see if you are getting the correct spark at the plugs when the engine fails to start.

Put in a new battery last November and now you go to start it it just clicks

Check the battery terminals, and battery posts, they may need to be cleaned. Your local parts store sells a battery post and terminal cleaner brush. When disconnecting the battery besure not to cause any sparks and if you smoke put it out before starting any battery maintence. Take the negative terminal off first, clean but dont put it back on yet. take the positive terminal of and clean both the terminal and the battery post.. Have someone with a volt meter check the voltage in the battery, if it measures 12volts, if available, then install the positive terminal first, then the negative post last taking care not to create any sparks. Once that is done try to start the car. If it starts, you have fixed it. If not, then you will have to move on to the starter solenoid.on the left inner fender, the other end of the positive batery terminal cable hooks to it. Again take the negative battery terminal off and replace the solenoid. Pay close attention where the wires came off of. Once you have replaces the solenoid, hook the negative terminal back on to the battery. This should take care of the problem, If not then you have to take the starter off and take it to you local parts store and have it tested they will tell you if it is bad. That is the last thing in the starting circuit that will cause the clicking noise. I hope this information help you to sovle you problem.

How do you put a starter solenoid in a 1988 ford f150?

Ford does not put the solenoid on the starter itself, so then it is just a relay, usually on a fender. It will have 4 wires. Two thick ones from the battery and to the starter. And 2 thin ones from ignition switch and to ground.

Trying to change battery; sparking occuring

Hi Real,

Right, left, don't care. What matters is positive to positive and negative to negative.

Important: Wear proper eye protection when working with batteries.

The negative cable, regardless of color is the ground. It will be the one that is attached to the engine block, frame or both. It gets connected to the negative battery post, marked with a minus (-) sign. The other is positive..

If it sparks when you try to connect, that means something is drawing power. Make sure everything is off. Then try it again.

Comment me back with any remaining symptoms.

Best regards,
Mike

How to install a ignition switch

THIS IS NOT THE IGNITION IN MOST CASES, IT IS THE STARTER SOLENOID BEING STUCK.

My hyundai santa fe

Hi! i think you must describe more problem symptoms;
DESCRIPTION The starting system includes the battery, starter motor, solenoid switch, ignition switch, inhibitor switch(A/T), ignition lock switch, connection wires and the battery cable. When the ignition key is turned to the start position, current flows and energizes the starter motor's solenoid coil. The solenoid plunger and clutch shift lever are activated, and the clutch pinion engages the ring gear. The contacts close and the starter motor cranks. In order to prevent damage caused by excessive rotation of the starter armature when the engine starts, the clutch pinion gear overruns. http://hmaservice.com/viewer/dispimg.asp?path=/data/Passenger/HY/HMA/ENG/SHOP-images/HY-SM13-IMAGES-ENG/ebkd010a.gif INSPECT SPARK TEST 1. Remove the spark plug cable. 2. Using a spark plug socket, remove the spark plug. 3. Remove the ignition coil. 4. Install the spark plugs to each spark plug cable. 5. Ground the spark plugs. 6. Check is spark occurs while engine is being cranked. 7. Using a spark plug socket, install the spark plugs. 8. Install the spark plug cable and ignition coil.
