Kia sorento 2.5 cdri egr problem

Had the turbo serviced, black smoke and loss of power + engine vibrates when in 4th and 5th gear(more like holding back in those gears. I was told the EGR could be problematic....can this be cleaned and how?

Sounds like the EGR valve get clogged by the diesel sludge, it could be cleaned, depending on the valve, one side could get blocked off. but we often changed the valve.

I suggest you to put a dummy seal into the EGR aulminum gasket. Worked for me!

i would check all the basics like spark plugs and check for vacuum leaks around the intake manifold. With a can of 2+2 carb cleaner while engine is running --if idle goes up or down that is were your leak is--
check egr too, Lee

I have a 2005 Kia Sorento under excelliration it blow a lot of black smoke could it be the intercooler leaking as i check the oil regularly and it never uses any,

black smoke is over fuel and in a diesel with a turbo that indicates that
1 the turbo variable vanes are not adjusting to low rpm
2- the turbo turbine wheel is not spinning up
3-the intercooler or hoses are leaking boost air
4-- bad injectors -- squirting and not atomizing

loads of black smoke, loss of power and heating all indicate a faulty turbo--not winding up to provide the air flow required
check turbo actuator got the turbine vanes
Take it to a turbo repair shop and have it tested.

2005 Kia sorento belching black smoke

Black smoke = excess fuel. Could be o2 sensor, blocked fuel pressure regulator etc... should have vehicle scaned they may be able to extract a code, if not a fuel pressure test would be good to

Peugeot expert 20 hdi

Hi, I have a 2.0HDI Expert which was doing the exact same thing as yours, blowing thick black smoke, sluggish and loss of power on gradients, a hissing sound and surging. I replaced the air flow meter but that didn't help. I was told to replace the turbo but a turbo expoert told me not to as it would blow white smoke if it was faulty. I was then told to replace the injectors but a diagnostic test showed them to be functioning fine. I was then told to look at the intercooler which had thick sludge at the lower left pipe. I replaced it today - Sunday 12th July and it is now driving like a new van. It now pulls me up gradients with ease in 4th and 5th instead of having to drop gear to get to the top. I got a replacement from Euro Car Parts for £147 inc VAT. To tell if this is your problem, look through the gaps in the lower section of the bumper at what looks like the radiator and look for sludge over the inside of the bumper and all over the pipe where it joins the back of the radiator (intercooler). Also open the bonnet and look down behind the grille for the same sludge. Hope this sorts it for you. Barry, Newtownards, Northern Ireland.
