Mechanic wants to change Natural Vacuum Leak Detection (NVLD) to fix P0441. Does this make any sense?
I changed it on my 2005 Caravan and yes it fixed the problem. I had checked all the hoses for leaks, the purge solenoid, the canister and even pulled a small vacuum on the gas tank. It took about 4 hours of trouble shooting to verify that it was bad. There was some power steering fluid on it from the leaking rack plus some road grime. Seems to me this is not the best location for a device that referenced ambient air pressure.

Vehicles equipped with NGC engine control modules use an NVLD pump
and system. Vehicles equipped with JTEC engine control modules use a
leak detection pump. Refer to Leak Detection Pump (LDP) for additional
information.
The Natural Vacuum Leak Detection (NVLD) system is
the next generation evaporative leak detection system that will first be
used on vehicles equipped with the Next Generation Controller (NGC).
This new system replaces the leak detection pump as the method of
evaporative system leak detection. This is to detect a leak equivalent
to a 0.020 (0.5 mm) hole. This system has the capability to detect holes
of this size very dependably.
Removal & Installation
To Install:
WARNING
The vapor/vacuum lines and hoses must be firmly connected. Check
the vapor/vacuum lines at the NVLD pump, filter and EVAP canister purge
solenoid for damage or leaks. If a leak is present, a Diagnostic Trouble
Code (DTC) may be set.

SOURCE: how to locate and replace the natural vacuum leak
THE NVLD ASSEMBLY IS LOCATED UNDER THE VEHICLE ON THE METAL PLATE BOLTED TO THE FRONT ALUMINUM K FRAME..JUST BEHIND TRANS DIFFERENTIAL..HAS SOME HOSES AND AND AN ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR GOING TO IT..BLACK PLASTIC HOUSING..HOSES LEAD TO CANISTER BEHIND FRAME..DISCONNECT HOSES,ELECTRICAL..MARK THEM IF YOU NEED TO..BUT ALSO LOOK FOR A BROKEN WIRE NEAR NVLD AT CONNECTOR..UNBOLT ASSEMBLY FROM FRAME..I YOU HAD A NEW ONE YOU WILL SEE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE..I HOPE THIS HELPS

SOURCE: P0441 Code. Natural Vacuum Leak Detection (NVLD)?
Look at the following link. It definatly does make sence but possibly not the problem. Personaly I would probably start there after looking at the gas cap & hoses to the charhol canister. http://www.permoveo.ltd.uk/tabid/122/OBD-Error-Code/P0441/Diagnostics/Dodge/Default.aspx
