First if your key is worn to much is will not raise tumblers in cylinder try new key cut by code at the dealer, (they will need proof of ownership and an id to get key code) if that does not work then you most likely will need a new lock cylinder.
talk with a locksmith as there is a key code on the barrel of the switch and he should be able to cut a key to that code
if no code he will be able to remove the barrel and cut new keys from the tumbler positions
the only thing is that although he can cut keys , if it needs keys that work an immobilizer they can be expensive
if you are buying this car , then the seller should have the keys
you will have to take your key to the dealer or locksmith there is a key code scanner that will scan your key and then program the new key the programmer is 268.00 dollars on amazon. i know im going through the same thing with my key but i can cut the chip out of mine and place in the new key
some you can, mine ,yes. you buy the key, then read the instructions with it. on mine there is hidden button on the car, controller, you press this button and then the fob and it learns the new key code. mines a 04 Vitara v6 if you need full info on this the FSM has this. available here. https://suzukipitstopplus.com/category/3-suzuki-service-manuals.aspx
not a lot else you can do either buy second hand or try getting a new key cut thats the cheaper option incase the key is goosed a friend of mine is having the same problem with his land rover the barrel is worn a wont accept his key so he is paying 29 pound for a new ignition barrel and harness
Worn lock cylinders hanging up are common in all GM's. Sometimes (if you're lucky) you can get it to work by having a new key cut at the dealer using the key code for your car. This way, you have only a worn cylinder and not a worn key and cylinder. This does not allways work, but it is worth the gamble. If a new key does not make it work, you will have to replace the lock cylinder. GM ( or AC Delco) lock cylinder kits come with an assortment of tumblers so they can be coded to fit your new key, so the new key idea is not a waste of money and effort.
Sounds like your key is worn out. The sharp cuts on the head of the key wear out over time causing the ignition to lose "grip" on the key allowing it to be pulled from the ignition. Try using a new spare key or have a new key made. If the key is coded you may need to have the dealer cut and program a new key for you.
ignition barrel worn or dirt, need a new barrell, try another key or get 1 cut to try and turn, a cut key wont start it, u have to hold the original key very close to barrel to get the code
