If the leak is coming from the top you could have a damaged gasket for the fuel gauge sending unit. If it looks like a seam or a puncture, you need a new tank.

If my Opel stands for a while and I start it there is a lot of petrol come from the tank and I don't know where its leaking but its only when the car stands for a while

Could be a leak in the fuel line or even the tank its self. Climb under neath the car or put it up on a hoist and look for a wet spot in the area where it is dripping. Sometimes it could be up on the top area of the tank. It doesn't take a very big leak to make a mess and yes it gets costly. A few drops an hour can be several gallons a week.

Leaking fuel pump

If the fuel is leaking into the car you will need the replace the seal on the top on the pump assembly not the seals on the pump itself but before changing the seal just double check the fuel lines are tight and the leak is actually from the fuel splashing out of the tank. The seal your after is referred to as the pump assembly oring ( big rubber oring around the top of the assembly a smear of silcone can be used as a temporary fix but erge you to get it fix properly as soon as possible and fuel fumes in the cabin can be extremely deadly)
Hope this helps

Check engine light is on says it the gas cap but have replaced it twice but still coming on

Your cap provides a pressure seal for the tank. Sounds like you still have a pressure leak. Check all your fuel lines for proper sealing and tightness at connections. Might want a fuel pressure check just to verify that you are at proper pressure readings. Check the big inlet fueling hose for tightness on the tank outlet.

My gas tank leaks. How do I go about replacing it? It seems to have three fuel lines to the tank. One is a small diameter line and the other two are larger, I am assuming one of these might be a return...

if you take and clamp off the hoses and remove them from the tank, then support the fuel tank, remove the fuel tank holding straps then lower the tank, disconnect the wiring and make sure there is nothing else connected to the fuel tank, remove fuel tank transfer any components to the new tank and re-install.

My 95 accord waste alot of gas but can't seem to find a leak in the gas tank either my exaust is too big. i can fill it at half a tank and if i drive a mile it will be at empty

You certainly have a leak then. The engine could not cope with that amount of fuel. If the tank is not leaking, check all the flexible hoses and connections, especially those on the pressure side of the fuel pump.

O ring in fuel pump bad

the o ring is under neath the fuel pump in your tank. When you pull the fuel pump you will see a rubber ring come up with the pump. The ring stops moisture and dirt from getting in the tank. If your o ring is craked it could cause your jeep to run a little rough. I'm having the same problem in my jeep. I can not put the rubber ring on perfect. The rubber ring seems to be to big.

Received code P1494 on 97' dodge caravan

P1494 is the code for the leak detection pump and or system, which is part of the early evaporative emission system. (Fuel tank fumes)
It’s there to allow the computer to run an integrity test of the fuel tank, lines and carbon canister’s ability to contain all of the fumes coming from the tank and all line associated with the system.
The code could be set for a number of reasons such as a faulty gas cap, cracked vacuum lines, solenoids & vent valves stuck to the pump itself.
It can be a very difficult fault to cure being it doesn’t take a very big leak anywhere in the system to set the code and that’s if it’s a leak and not an electrical or mechanical fault.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!
