Did you flush out the transmission cooler lines of grit and metal particles from the failed old transmission and the torque converter? If not you may have ruined another transmission. The debris from the old unit are clogging up the system of the new unit.
Also it is possible the new or rebuilt is defective, many time they are, this more true of any transmission from Autozone, O'reilly or other discount parts store or a cheap rebuilt in general..

SOURCE: 95 GMC Jimmy 4L60E no 2nd or OD 4L60E

You might want to try this if its got a kick down cable unhook it from throutle body and pull it out as far as you can and let it snap back, do this a few of times, sometimes a valve gets hung up inside valve body of trans. and won't let it shift. If that don't help you may have to pull pan to dislodge it if thats the problem. chk. the plug on trans. (Its a 4 wire white plug) with test light with key on to see if there is power down there one will be hot, thats for overdrive, now on top of intake in front throutle body there is a sending unit that looks like a temp. sending unit with a 2 wire plug on it that sends a signial down to that plug when engine gets to temp. to let it shift to overdrive. Maybe this will help, or give you some ideas.

SOURCE: 88 Jeep Cherokee Transmission Fluid Leak

you need to tighten those fittings with a wrench... if they still leak... remove them and wrap them with a couple turns of "teflon tape" the kind they use for plumbing. the clamps you should use are hose clamps of the same type that you use for radiator hoses... you will note these can be tightened with a socket.... you really don't need to over tighten them but fairly snug... transmission fluid has quite alot of pressure.

SOURCE: 2002 dodge neon automatic transmission, wont shift

If it happened right after they changed the radiator, did they add transmission fluid? If they did, check your owners manual, or call a dealership, to find out EXACTLY what kind of fluid you need. It may be on a sticker under your hood also. It probably needs ATF+3 or ATF+4. I don't give a rats *** what anyone else says, use them, and them ONLY. If the shop put in something that is supposed to be compatible, then you need to drain the fluid, refill it, run it a little, in rev and first, like 10 feet each direction. Drain the fluid AGAIN, and refill. My Stratus and others (probably same tranny as yours) needs ATF+3 or +4, they are REALLY picky about this. Anything else will mess it up. I have not used MOPAR brand, I have used off brands, like from Wally World, and they are fine. They just need to be EXACTLY the right fluid. Change the filter if it hasn't been done lately too.

My envoy wont shift. got it home let it sit and then drove it agin and now its fine

You need to have the transmission control computer scanned for fault codes, you may have a sticking shift solenoid. Has the transmission fluid ever been changed? If it has over 60,000 miles have it serviced, dirty fluid can cause shifting issues.

What would cause tranny not to shift 2nd to 3rd after being parked over night with no warning

Went from 2nd to 4th? 3rd clutches are gone. Wouldn't shift to 3rd or OD. Solenoid or valve body problem. Have the codes read. Not sure for the year... 4l60 or 4l60e?

What causes 95 suburban to not go into gear. tranny fluid adequate and clean. simply wont engage.

First we need to figure out what transmission you have. Crawl under the vehicle on the drivers side (be sure to chock your tires) and see if there is a black box on that side of the transmission. If so, then it is the 4L60E and there are many electronic parts that could be the culprit. Also while you're under there check and see if your shift linkage is hooked up, that will be on that same(drivers) side of the transmission. While your under there getting dirty, you could park the vehicle on level ground, chock the front wheels, jack up the entire rear of the vehicle and place it on jackstands. With the rear of the vehicle up in the air you could un-bolt the shift linkage and try to manually shift the transmission. If that works, you could have a broken shift linkage, or if you do have the 4L60E out may be that little black box where the shift linkage attaches to the transmission. Good luck and be careful!

I have a 1994 caprice ex police lt1 4l60e. things were fine. for about 2 months.then getting on freeway picking up speed and trans acted like it did not want to up shift. it was already in 2nd. got home,...

hi, it may be the transmission oil, transmission oil LEVEL or and transmission filter.
first check transmission level by starting the engine (ticking over) go through ALL GEARS and check level. this level will (drop from standing idle). NOT ENOUGH FLUID
if the FILTER is partially blocked then not enough fluid reaching the chambers. NOT ENOUGH FLUID.
the fluid may be full of deposits. transmission fluid needs REPLACING and or FILTER.
also check if leaking transmission fluid.
check if lever out of range (worn, can't get to position before end of gear lever travel).
the brake bands may be WORN, or needs adjusting
the KICK-DOWN seams to work. check link-ergs for wear and movement.
the speedo seams to have a BAD CONNECTION (closed circuit connected then open circuit). loose connector. gerry

Tramission prom

Take it to a transmission shop that has a Tech 2 scanner. The tech 2 scanner will not only scan the transmission but can also recalibrate the shift points. Other reason to why it wont shift under WOT it low transmission fluid pressure so check the fluid level and have a pressure test done on the line.
The 4L60E is a great transmission but there are some things that don't work well with them like some shift kits. The ECM is program the shift points which get's messed up if done wrong. best upgrade on the 4L60E was to swap out the servos for corvette servos or after market performance one's all for under $100.00 and in most case better then a after market shift kit.
Good luck and hope this help. take care not to burn up the transmission.

Wont shift out of lower gear

First thing I need to ask is when the filter & Fluid was last changed. If recently, Did they replace old fluid with ATF4 from Mopar/chrysler? Chrysler transmissions are very temperamental, especially with any other transmission fluid running in them, even though many mechanics, transmission places etc, may argue with me, it is a known fact. First, disconnect your + battery connection for a couple of minutes, then reconnect, and try that to see if it helps. If not, and fluid & filter haven't been changed in a while, I'd spend the money & have it done, but using only Mopar ATF4 from a Chrysler dealer.
