Not sure about yours, but on a lot of them you have to partially dissemble the distributor. Not that hard, just drive out the roll pin on the bottom gear with a punch, and slide off the gear. Now dist. shaft can be pulled out from the top. That's about it. Remove and replace pick-up coil.
Good luck.

SOURCE: 1989 Chevy K2500 350 will not restart after warmed

tdc is usually set at 8 degrees BTDC for an automatic and 4 BTDC for a manual transmission. This may help. Does the engine run rough at start up being set at 0TDC?

I have an 1989 plymonth sundance it don't like to stay running it even dies on you when your driveing down the roadwhats wrong with it

You'll need to determine whats going away to make it quit but the fuel pressure being low will do it the coil or dist. pickup can fail if it has to sit and cool before it will restart then the pick-up is a 20 dollar part and every parts store will have it and it's easy to replace . Just remove the dist. cap tand the rotor and the pickup lifts right out just unplug the connector and then drop in the new one like you remved the old one, put in a new rotor and cap as you already have them off and you did the tune up less the plugs and wires and if thier nasty get them too.

My 1989 Chevrolet 1500 4x4 with a 350 stopped running. Checked the fuel pump changed the rotar cap rotar button and the coil. What else could it be?

Replace the pick up coil in the distributor, they are bad to go out. Also, while you are in there remove the ignition module and have it tested,to make sure it is good.

1990 K5 Blazer DIED(Electrical?)?

There may be no injector pulse if the computor does not see a RPM signal.
There will be no spark if the ignition module does not see a dist pulse from the dist pickup.......a RPM signal.
Because you do not have both ......I would suggest to check/change the dist pick up.
Follow the wires from the ignition module inside the dist to the pickup which is also inside the dist.
If it is just a bad dist pickup....keep all your old parts as good spares.
Also...is the dist turning? to provide a RPM signal?
You will have to remove the dist to change the pick-up.....mark your timing locations......"rotor position" and "dist body location"before removal.
A quick test before installing the "repaired dist" .....plug it in the the truck wiring and turn on the key....DO NOT CRANK THE ENGINE OR YOU WILL LOSE YOUR DIST ROTOR CORRECT POSITION......as you spin the dist by hand .....the injectors should spray.

I have a 86 Mercury Marquis that I am working on helping someone out and I would like to know how the ignition module is changed.......it won't start.....i have replaced battery, ignition coil, cap and...

if the module is on the side of the distributer it takes a wrench made just for ford modules to remove 2 screws, if you need to replace the pickup in the dist. you have to remove the dist. out of the engine pull the gear off and pull the shaft out of the dist.
