SOURCE: 1997 Chevy Cavalier intermittent starting

I had the exact same problem on my 1998 Chevrolet 1500 c/k pickup. I also tried a new starter motor and solenoid assembly, but to no avail.

After weeks of searching for the problem, I found that corrosion had built up between the car battery terminals and the power cables extended from the car battery to the starter motor. I'm not sure if this is your problem, but it's worth a try. Also, check all other electrical connections, because these types of intermittent problems are often electrical.

SOURCE: I replaced my starter for a 98 chevy suburban 2

Possible not shimmed correctly. The starter teeth have to engage correctly for the starter not to hang up. That's what probably happened & broke teeth off. You had better check your flywheel around the entire circumfrence as teeth may be missing from it as well. Starter won't engage if teeth and flywheel teeth in same spot are broken off. If the flywheel teeth are bad, it will be a spendy fix to put a new one on... Rick

97 chevy lumina won't turn over but lights work. Makes a click sound and thats it.

You need a new battery-
It takes a great deal more power to crank a motor than it does to light up the lights. This is why your lights still come on even though the battery does not have enough power crank the engine over. If you install a new battery keep an eye on it...if it dies quickly then you have a bad alternator.

1998 Chevrolet Lumina LTZ electric accessory power flashes on and off. Sometimes go over a bump and it turns back on.

sounds like you may have a electrical connector that is not making a good connection, possible causes are loose connector-wiring is broken-wiring is over heating and the plastic is burned and /or the wiring pins are oxidized and dirty from heat .

Where the starter relay at in 95'chevy lumina

There may be a problem with your antitheft security system. This will turn off the starter and make it appear to not be functioning properly. Look for a light that says SECURITY when you try to start your car. If you see that light, go to this link for help.

My 1998 chevy lumina won't start right away and

The cooling system shouldn't be losing much coolant.

If you're putting in coolant regularly
If you're seeing slick oil in the coolant
If you're hearing noise in the engine while driving

You may have a crack in your engine block and your engine isn't being lubricated properly anymore. This will cause noise and leaks, make a motor run really rough and cause rough starting.

I suggest you bring your vehicle in for a coolant system pressure test and a chassis leak check. This should be a free service from any auto shop that wants your money for repairs.

Spark plugs usually degrade your performance slowly and don't make noise while doing it unless in extreme cases.

Good luck!

I own a 1998 Chevy Lumina. Running fine when I parked it. Now, will not turn over or even 'click' when I try to start it.

sounds like the battery has went down, most of the g.m. batteries have a small round site glass on the top of the battery, look and see if it is green, if it is black, then the battey is down, or bad, you might have to start jump the car to see. also , make sure the battery conections are clean.

Have your alternator tested.Your car will not stay running if the alternator is not producing enough power to keep the battery charged. Also have your battery tested and fully charged.Make sure your cables are in good shape.

1998 chevy lumina that the power shuts off when trying to start.

Battery terminals are loose or have corrosion on them. Check both main battery lead's at the battery and + where it is connected to the starter and - where it connect's to the body and engine.
