Right mirror was smashed & now both mirrors(?) get adjusted,not 1

I have a Volkswagen Golf 2004 (simple version).

Somebody was running at high speed with his car and i was unlucky enough to get my right mirror smashed by him (the casing got a bit open but i closed it/put it back ). The light indicator on the smashed mirror works, but when i tried adjusting the right mirror it adjusted both the right and the left mirrors. When adjusting the left mirror it only adjusts the left as it should. So the problem must be with the right mirror.

So now i don't know if i must buy only a new (original) mirror, or if i also need to change the mirror's mechanism.
Why do both mirrors work instead of only the right? Any solutions?

check the wiring inside the mirror. it sounds like it is shorting possibly pinch when you closed the housing

Hi, try to see if the cables that enter the right mirror case have any damaged insulation due to collision. But before this check a menu at SETTINGS\CONVENIENCE\ about mirrors that enables a synchronized adjustment of both mirrors. This should be set at "individual".

No usually you just use an Allen Wrench to remove the mirror but if it's an electric mirror you will also need to cut the wires and re-wire them up by using **** connectors and crimping them down with wire cutters.
You can buy these connectors at any Auto Parts store or even a Wal Mart they look like little round barrows.

Hi, It's a real bugger. You have to remove the mirror glass to access the screws (tor-x) that secure the cover running the risk of breaking the mirror. It is a ridiculous process, but can be done if you are patient.

Wing mirrors on 06 plate Golf TDi
Has it ocurred to you that your wing mirrors are not the electrically folding type, most are not. The switch on the drivers arm rest for adjusting the mirrrors will have a separate position for folding if yours fold. The resistance to fold by hand is very stiff as you have to overcome the spring tension, even when folded by hand they do not fold as flat as you might think.
I purchased a 2006 Golf 5 GT Tdi last year it had £5000 worth of factory fitted options but did not have electrically folding door mirrors - hope this helps.

sounds like it ,these fancy new cars and their electronics,a mechanics nightmare to be truthfull.try reading the manual again if still no success then take it back to dealer as you could have a fault in the controlling processor.

Indicator on wing mirror
Have you tried taking off the cover to see if the indicator cover is part of the entire wing mirror cover. I think it might all be part of the same cover. The Haynes manual may be able to help more.

How to replace broken mirror
Remove the door panel, then remove the speaker inside the door opposite the mirror itself.Then it is usually an allen key bolt or 3 depending on the year. It will come off as one big unit.

under the mirror there should be a 1 1/2 slot door under mirror that looks like a flat lid this will be flush with mirror moulding where it looks like a quarter can turn it
this is the light access panel the detachment screw is threw this panel to take off mirror then you can access the bulb
