Open the trunk and on the inside panel (usually grey with a carpet texture) you will find black knobs with hooks on them for a cargo net to attach. unscrew all of them and remove the panel. You will find studs from the tail light sticking through with sheet metal nust or plastic nuts. unscrew them also (usually 4 to 5 nuts). now pull out on the tail light and squeeze the light sockets and twist counter clockwise and pull the socket and bulb out. Replace the tail light with a new or good used one and reassemble everything in reverse order.

My driver side tail light just the left side is broken . i am not sure if that is the inner or outer portion it is the piece that is covering the actual tail light if that helps my car is a 2007 hyundai...

I assume you're asking if only the lens can be replaced. I'm afraid not. The tail lamps can only be acquired as complete assemblies. You will see what I mean when you remove the assembly and examine it. There are three (3) to four (4) 10mm nuts holding the assembly in place and can be accessed from inside the trunk. You'll need/want to use a deep-well 10mm socket.

How do you replace a 2007 Honda Odyssey Tail Light

Yes, you have to remove the plastic panel. It is mostly held by spring clips. You can see how to remove it at the link below.

My 2005 Tacoma was hit in the rear and since then not rear lights

You did right so far. Once you have lowered the tailgate and removed the upper and lower 10mm bolts the tail light assembly should be loose and moving a little bit. There are only 2 push-in plastic posts holding it at this point now. Then you have to pull back the assembly firmly, hit on the external side of the assembly with the palm of your hand and it will pop out. DO NOT try to pry with a screwdriver or any other tools.

Disconnect wires connections, replace burned or broken bulbs, make test. If it doesn't work check if the wiring has been affected by the accident.

Hope it will help

Replacing the left rear driver side tail lamp assembly

Most of these type lights do not have a plug. I am assuming that you want to replace a burnt out lamp.

Here's what you do. Remove the assembtail lamp assembly. It is usually held on with 2 or 3 phillips head screws. If the problem is a burnt out lamp, the lamp assembly will unscrew from the unit by turning it counterclockwise about a quarter turn. Take the bad bulb to an auto parts store and get a replacement. The bulb will only fit one way into its socket. Then take the socket with the new bulb and insert it back in the housing. Again it will only fit one way. remount the tail light assembly.

If the actual plastic tail light assembly is broken or cracked remove the lamp assembly as described above, take the broken tail light to a dealer and ghet a new one. They are expensive. I just replaced one for my 95 F-150 pickup and it was $40.
