  • J Grant Jun 20, 2012

You say it "used" to come up...So is it still or did it go out on it's own?  Have you had the codes read yet?  let me know

Hi Akintola, The engine check light is supposed to come on when the ignition is turned on and then when the engine is started it is supposed to go out. If the check light is not coming on as described and the engine is starting you most likely have a blown bulb. If the light comes on and stays on with the engine running, take the vehicle and have a diagnostic scan carried out. If the engine is refusing to start check the fuses for the ECU. Regards John

Charged the battery over night, also changed the spark plug and wiring but the battery lies and after jumping it, it does not hold the charge.
Is this a battery problem or something else.

Jeep turns over but wont start,,engine light does not come on

  • Hi Dwight, If the engine check light fails to come on when the ignition is switched on it is indicating a fault with the computer which can be as simple as a blown fuse. Check the ECU fuse before doing anything else. Let me know if that solves the problem or if we need to go deeper into the problem. Regards John

Won't start !!! 2002 dodge ram 1500 4x4

There are several things that could be causing your 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 to backfire through the intake and not start properly. Here are a few things you can check:
  1. Check the spark plugs: If the spark plugs are worn out or not functioning properly, they can cause the engine to backfire and not start. Check to make sure the spark plugs are in good condition and are properly gapped.
  2. Check the fuel system: If the fuel system is not delivering fuel properly, the engine may not start. Check the fuel pump, fuel filter, and fuel injectors to make sure they are working properly.
  3. Check the ignition system: If the ignition system is not functioning properly, the engine may not start. Check the ignition coils, distributor, and ignition control module to make sure they are working properly.
  4. Check the timing: If the timing is off, the engine may backfire and not start. Check the timing belt or chain to make sure it is properly aligned.
  5. Check the compression: If the engine has low compression, it may not start properly. Check the compression using a compression tester.
If you are not familiar with these systems or are unsure how to check them, it is recommended that you take your vehicle to a qualified mechanic for diagnosis and repair.

2001. Why is it hard to start at times?

If the service engine soon light is on ,have you had it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes ? When is it hard to start , first time you start it in the morning , or any time , randomly ? You should have a diagnostic scanner hooked up to check engine sensor data parameters .

Truck won't start but it turns over

You need three things for an engine run: spark, fuel, compression all at the right time. The easiest to check for is fuel. Spray some starting fluid in the intake. If the engine starts and runs for a few seconds on the fluid, then your issue is fuel related. If the engine has no change in the starting problem, check for spark. If you have spark on all cylinders, check compression. If you have all three, then your engine is out of time. It could be physical or spark timing that is the issue at this point.

Hard starting, now it won't start, no engine

I would check the timing in the engine, if it is off far enought it would cause hard starts, also check your spark plugs. Basically a rountine maintaince check should do it. also check spark plug wires too. check all connection. try not to use either to much too, if the engine gets to use to it for so reason you will start to use it all the time

Engine spins but won't start

its not easy the way you put it, but maybe first thing to check should be fuel pressure at the fuel rail should be above 50 psi to start if its below its going to be hard to start, most times is a defective fuel pump, next check for spark at the coils if its a 4.6 or 5.4 v8 take off one coil tell a friend to help you crank the engine from inside while you check for spark if there is no spark find or rent an obd2 code reader and check for dtc it will save you a lot of time than checking one by one

Why won't my car start

Let's see; get a timing light, hook it to a plug wire; tape the switch on set it in the window so you can see it and, crank the engine if it flashes you can rule out the ignition as the problem the next check is: remove the air filter box where it enters the engine open the flap entering the engine and spray either into the engine and, crank the engine if the engine starts check the fuel pump and, fuel system. Lastly check to see that the timing belt turns the camshaft if it does not replace and, retime the belt.don't forget to always check fuses too. fuelpumps are sometimes powered with a fuse!
