1998 S70 manual (wont change gear until idle is under 2500rpm)

I just bought a 1998 S70 with a manual transmision and the problem it has is that when the car is moving, and the rpm is over 2500 rpms, I wont be able to change gear until the rpm is down to about 2500rpm) then shifting becomes no problem.
The engine was recently changed on this car and problem started since.
could it be a software issue or something to do with the sensors.

    Thanks for the reply kf4rwe

I can put it in nutral evn when rpm is high but not into the next gear, only until rpm is about 2500. also the rpm needle is slower when dropping only after shifting gears and when car is moving.

Being it is a manual transmission and the engine was removed, it is likely the clutch and pressure plate not releasing completely at high rpms.

Sounds like it may have a vacuum leak, recommend geting a can of carb cleaner and spray around throttle body and intake , see if idle changes

1998 volvo s70. Gearshift has been sticking - must pull down lock to get it fully into "park". Problem today is that alarm sounds when you open the door or turn the key in the ignition. ...

There is a cable that connects your gearshift to the ignition switch, when this cable stretches, it does not allow the gearshift assembly to move when you have the key turned. Removed the assembly around the gear shift assembly and inspect this cable. Removed the cable and manually actuate the lever. See if this fixes the problem as it is common in the S70/C70/V70s that are pre 2000

I had the same problem but when I changed the Mass Air Flow it was solved. I am suprised that you changed the MAF and you are still getting problems. Please get an OBD check. The problem must be having something to do with electronics and the ODB will definetly be able to read it.

My 1998 volvo s70 go died when idle at stop i

I'm having the same problem. At first I thought it was bad fuel so I replaced the fuel filter to no avail. Then I cleaned the Mass Air Flow sensor which also didn't work. Is your check engine light on?

Cant find code for radio

My husband had the same issue with not knowing the code (we bought the car used, never given the code). If you remove the radio, it should be printed on top. Odd, I know, but that is where his was located.

Engine revving problem

Sounds like your idle speed is way too high, should be somewhere around 800-1200 rpms. I would check for vacuum leaks.

Idle too high +goes higher when put in gear (manual transmision

IAC valve problem. Nissan has a updated harness (with one way diode inside of the harness) to prevent backfeeding for the IAC valve and a new IAC valve also gets installed. That's where I would look. IAC valve or "idle air control" valve.
