When you turn on ignition switch only service engine light will burn, no other lights will burn, no Tach, no Speed O. no fuel guage, no door locks, no dome lights. Truck starts and run fine. you can turn on headlight switch lift up and hold up on Dimmer switch everything seem to work fine until you release switch.
What is the problem? How do you Diagnoses this problem?
Replace the dimmer switch insid ethe dash it is usually separate from the headlight switch in these trucks. If not then get a known good switch out of a simial truck from a salvage yard before buying a new one and try that first. it could be that the wiring somehow got damaged. This is the only thing I can think of that may be of some help. the service engine light runs off the computer system where the other lights are illuminated from a separate circuit but if the dimmer control switch is moved and they work it is in that system...a short or a bad switch.

If the engine turns over more easily than normal, your timing belt is broken. That's the worst case.
Does your engine service light come on when you turn on the ignition? If not, suspect a bad ignition switch, blown fuse or fusible link in the ignition circuit (if this is the case, look for the problem that blew the fuse before blowing out a new fuse), or dead engine computer.
If the engine service light comes on, get an ODB scan tool and read out the engine data. This is often very helpful in identifying the problem. First, verify that you have ignition pulses; a failed ignition module may be your problem. Second, verify that your fuel pump is working and you have the correct fuel pressure (you may be able to borrow or rent a fuel pressure guage from a car parts store - be sure to follow safety procedures).
Good day
You have to look in under the dash and make sure the connections at the back of the cluster is in place. If that is all good then check the fuse box and make sure all fuses are in place and working correctly.
Good luck.
go online there is sites u can use to fix this problem u have to retrain your truck to the key its like it doesnt recognize the key there is a anti theft chip in the ignition i had this happen to me i bought a 2000 blazer that was a theft recovery replaced the steering column then this problem popped up so i checked online on retraining the ignition on 2000 blazer your will be the same your truck starts then quits because the fuel is shut off hence "security" i hope this helps good luck
It sounds like a short in your ignition switch. I assume you engine
will not start? Check your fuses because if it is a short it should have blown
a fuse or you would have smelled burning isolation from the wires. If you find
a fuse blown it could give you a starting place to start checking. If the ignition
fuse is blown it is in the ignition, wiring, starter or ignition key
switch.
sounds alot the the pcm it controls the fuel pump and ign system but the anti theft would keep it from starting because the key has a transponder in it programmed for that vehicle and that would kill all ign if triggered
I have a '99 dodge dakota, 4 cyl, 5 speed manual. While researching a no start problem ran across possible solution to this problem. If no guage lights show when key truned to on position then normally a bad ignition switch. With fully charged battery and working ignition switch guage lights should slight up then go out when ignition in "on" position. Try shaking the key back and forth.
