Service engine soon light come on When ever I drive my 96' olds aurora the service vehicle soon light flashes (not the one on the dash but the one on the center console computer)

service engine soon ??? This has to do with the vehicles emissions When this light comes on it means your vehicle is polluting 1 & 1/2 times greater then the EPA allows . DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes are stored in the engine computer . The light is a warning to the driver to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop.

Your vehicle has a bad misfire that could damage the catalytic converter. That's why the service engine soon light flashes . If you drive it like that it will damage the cat. Have towed to the repair shop . Flashing Check Engine Light CarMD

It is probably going to be a misfire code, but I can't make any promisses. I would take it by Autozone or O'Reily's. They will scan it for trouble codes free of charge. The flashing light means you need to have it scanned urgently. It could be something pretty major so don't wait. Go now, your car will thank you:)

What are the codes you have?

Check engine light comes on and off, these are indication that there is some error code stored in your vehicles ECM. The engine module computer needs to be scanned. These will give the code and as per the error code the further problem can be detected and confirmed. The engine light indicator blinks or remains steady on dash when engine computer noticed any problem with any engine electrically operated components.

That service engine soon light is the same thing as a check engine light. You need to get the codes read so you can fix the problem. when a critical sensor quits working the engine will either stay or revert back to closed loop mode which is the mode it uses when cold. So it uses a lot more fuel just like it does when cold. The codes stored by the computer should say which sensor has malfunctioned.

It sounds like the transmission oil could be low as it doesn’t have to be down much for your type of problem to occur.
To check, the oil should be warm with the engine running and the transmission in Neutral. The level on the dipstick should be between the Low and Full Marks. There is about 1 Pint difference between the marks.

I would have the codes pulled. Some autoparts stores will do this for free. there may be a code stored in the cars ECM (computer)

I have had the same problem with my 96 aurora. I have a scan tool, but when this happened no codes were shown. My scan tool does not show codes for the Anti-Lock Brake system, or the Air Conditioner system. So, if your ABS light is on, its a problem with the ABS system, if not then there is a problem with the A/C system (which was my problem). There was a pressure sensor on the A/C system that was faulty (on the firewall up top in one of the A/C lines) The part was cheap around $15, but the system will **** out all the coolent as soon as the sensor is loosened or removed, so it should be drained, then have the sensor replaced and probably change the oil in the system at the same time so you dont end up with your A/C compressor succumbing to Black Death.
