You m?y have a blown head gasket letting exaust into the cooling system. The pump cannot push exaust. Try a liquid head gasket sealer before replacing gasket. But first open the radiator cap and start the engine. Watch for the coolant to bubble. Top engine and add coolant or water. Some times after doing work on a cooling system you may get air in the system and need to *burp* the systems.

The m43 engine should be similar to both the m42 and m44. The cylinder head torque settings are 22ft/lb and 90degree torque angle, and another 90 degree torque angle. Make sure to wait approximately 10minutes before performing the 2nd torque angle.

It's possible that you have a bad head gasket. Have your cooling system pressure tested, see if it holds roughly 18lbs of pressure. Could also be air in system, did you bleed system when waterpump and thermostat were installed?

when you top up your radiator side tank do you unscrew the bleed screw to the left of the cap,if this is undone the air can escape and allow more coolant into the system, once topped up to the top and air bled out of system, run the engine and the correct (max) level is actualy about 1/2 way down the side tank on the radiator. if the car still loses coolant get a garage to pressure test the system for leaks. if there is more steam than usual from the exhaust then it may be that the head gasket is on its way out. hope this helps

Fill the system up with water and coolant, including the radiator, BMW has a PRESSURIZED cooling system, as the vehicle warms up have your heat on in the car full blast, there should be a bleeder screw either by the expansion tank by the radiator or by the thermostat housing. Sounds like you have either some air bubbles in the system or if you let it overheat its possible you blew the head gasket. Hopefully not, as you let it heat up crack the bleeder screw open (carefully, a little at a time) until you start to get heat in the car usually this happens around the mid point of the temperature reading on the gauge in the car, sometimes it will take longer, like in your case since you dont have a thermostat in it, (which you should), it will take a lot longer. If the car heats up almost to red line shut it down there is something wrong or you dont have the air bubbles out yet.

hi, you need to get your thermostat changed and the engine checked for an air lock as this sounds like the problem to me, the chances are that it was the thermostat that caused the head gasket to blow so get this changed.

The garage should have changed this anyway as its one of the main causes for head gasket failure.

check your hoses see if when runnig they close up,if not loo for vents for letting are out of the system if ther is a air pocket inyour coolant system it willcause the engine to overheat make sure to run the heat when refilling coolant system. if this fails to solve your problem look for a gurgling sound coming from the rad or over flow tank look for this when engine is cold and runnig if you do hear this then you might have a blown head gasket.you can buy a blown headgasket detection kit from your local auto parts store if you do hear or see this symtom.

The components of your cooling system are, radiator, resovoir, hoses, thermostat, water pump, and the water pump belt, and cooling fans. First, check for the obvious. Coolant levels, is the belt on the water pump pulley and fuctioning. Is there a coolant leak. Are the fans working. Next if all the above is ok, replace the thermostat, (very inexpensive fix). If that doesn't correct the problem, do a coolant system flush.

You actually need the thermostat in to pressurize your cooling system or the coolant won't cyle through the radiator, it'll just cycle around the engine. Most people think without the thermostat in the coolant will just pump freely through the engine and radiator, but it doesn't.

Chuck in a new thermostat, purge the air out of the system and see if it overheats then. I gaurentee it won't, if it does then you've got head problems (but they should already be obvious by now).
