is your vss sensor on an automatic? (no trans type stated)
it has side screws.
or the whole thing unscrews.

VSS means veh. speed sensor, that?
why not post symptoms first then with a question.
so we can be on the same page.>?>??????

get it checked out you might need a new transmssion.

-possible misfire or bad or broken vacuum hose.

Change trans fluid, just did mine and it runs like brand new with 117k miles

no stop by a trans shop might just need a flush or filter change

This is a fuel pump issue. i would replace it and the lines as well.also, a minor tune up wouldn't hurt as well. wires plugs distributor cap points etc...

Based on another similar problem and it was fixed driving backwards, that's exactly what I did. I drove the Rodeo backwards and then would stop and put it in gear and did this for 10 minutes until I worked the 4x4 gear loose and now all four wheels run. I must say, I created quite a sight driving backwards in a Wal-Green's parking lot for 10 minutes.

Go buy the repair manual for vehicle (about 20 bucks) AND a code reader.(between 50 and 300 bucks. Both specific to your vehicle AND vehicle year. Million reasons for check engine light - but that light is basically saying, "I'm seeing something wrong, so check my vehicle computer for what I'm seeing" and the fact that it goes away or may go away just says the problem may be intermittent or keeps being cleared for some reason, either the problem fixes itself or the computer clears code for some reason, probably the former.

your master cylinder is gone. when stopped apply pedal and hold let up slightly then reapply if pedal sinks to floor master is bad.
