2001 isuzu trooper 4x4 TOD 120K - I replaced ****** with used ****** now I "sometimes" have a 50-400 RPM surge while cruising in low gear at low rpm(1300-1500) I have had the electronics checked out and the mechanic(installed the ******) said he thinks it is a hydraulic issue. He says it is a 50/50 shot that it could be the torque converter or an ****** internal issue. I have read many things. Some say a torque converter will not do this some say it will. Some say reset the TAP. Some say try raising your min tcc duty cycle table by 10%. I have not tried anything yet. I am fishing for any info that may help solve the problem. Do any of these solutions sound feasible? I do not want to rebuild a transmission if it is only the torque converter that needs to be replaced.
Seems you cant tell if the engine is surging
from transmission slip?
until that is solved, all all answers useless
why ask the blind this, we cant drive it, at all
why not find a ASE shop that is not brain dead.
any shop can tell you
engine
trans
in 15min work
let them;/?
I doubt VERY much just replacing the converter is going to solve that problem. Get a second PROFESSIONAL OPINION.

I had the same trouble with my 93 Trooper.
I went on a sensor-changing spree.
The one sensor that fixed this idle problem was the throttle position sensor.
You can get one here.
Throttle Position Sensor
It's very easy to change, and fixes the problem instantly.
Good luck.

check for a vaccuum leak this is where i would start if it rolled into my shop. possibly a PCV valve sticking or a hole in the hose, this hose should run from the valve cover, or crank case and then to the intake, or carb.

It only surges when in low gear at low RPMs. After the torque converter locks. The TPS has been swapped. all hoses are fine
