If your vehicle is leaking near tensioner you possibly do not have a blown head gasket.there is a L shaped plastic pipe right behind the tensioner they deterioate and leak i believe they call it intake bypass tube there are 2 of them one the engine you will need to replace both of them oreillys sell the metal ones which last you get two in the pack they are only about 8 bucks about a 1 1/2 hour from start to finish

You have a blown Head Gasket. Stop driving the car. Only drive the car in EMERGENCYS. You need to check your oil to make sure that you are not mixing antifreeze with oil. If you are, you need to flush the engine and change all of your seals. A head gasket set costs about 75 bucks. But to hire someone to do it is expensive. It might cost you about eight hundred bucks to get and experienced person to change your head gasket. If you want to know how to do this, shoot me an email @ [email protected]. I can explain to you how to do it.

1995 buick riviera 3.8 supercharged engine. Cold start issue. have to restart multiple times and it barely runs...spits back again and again until the engine warms up. once warm it runs correctly and...

Hello lysiphlebus2,

((My thoughts: cold START valve IAC at very bottom))

Plenty of places will do FREE diagnostic code reads.

I would rather suggest it be a muffler shop than
AUTOZONE... but either is better than guessing.

AUTOZONE will likely make you buy OXYGEN
sensors... (but that makes about as much sense as
buying a new THERMOMETER every-time you
have a FEVER.

What you are describing sounds (from an old
mechanic's perspective) like a collapsing
catalytic convertor or rotted muffler baffle
(a slightly better blockage will halt operation
completely)...

((again speculation... get your codes read))...

Do not buy OXYGEN SENSORS....

Know your prices before waltzing into any
exhaust shop.

You should also swap the transmission if the motor is going to be more powerful. Also a new computer will be needed for the swap. If you are looking for an easy swap then just find the same motor.

Buick review

Good engine 28 mpg+ hwy. These 3800 engines had upper intake problems and would leak coolant into the combustion chamber. The new ones were re-designed and do not give any trouble. My 90 buick 3800 has 295000 miles on it. If yours is supercharged it does not have that intake problem.

Too complicated to explain here...buy a Chiltons Manual at Auto Zone or NAPA $25...not too bad of a job but you should have a thorough knowledge of tools.

Changing supercharger oil

It takes a 3/16 allen wrench to open the port to check and add fluid which is on the top of the charger just left of the cover. You don't need to take the cover off to access.
