Ac compressor not clutching

Ac compressor intermittent

  • Anonymous Jun 26, 2012

I have figured out that the Blend Door is clicking on start up and after shut down. Some research tells me that the "AC won't work" if the actuator is bad. My question is if the blend door actuator does not move the blend door to the correct position, will that prevent the AC clutch from engaging?

@ J Grant... the AC doesn't work at all now. the relay does click, so I guess I'm up for the full replacement of the compressor clutch or the compressor itself. I have an estimate form a national company to the tune of $1300 but i have a local shop that is (so I'm told) reasonable and effective

Time for a new compressor. It's a magnetically controlled belt driven compressor. If it isn't clutching anymore, it's dead. pretty soon it'll start squealing or making other funky noises if it isn't completely dead yet, then soon you'll press the "ac" button and nothing will happen.

if this actuator is part of the clutch circuitry then maybe, but most ac systems are just a switch and one or two relays and the compressor itself. So let me get some clarity on this...if you press the 'ac" switch...every so often nothing happens right? So have you tried turning the ac switch on and off in every blend position? Or if you have it working in one position, will it turn on and off every single time? If you have it in a working position, and the blend hasnt been moved and you still have intermittent problems...listen for the "click" from the relays under the dash when turning it on or off. They are noticable and you should be able to hear them if you are close enough to them. Try that first... if you don't hear a click but the blend hasnt been moved and was working fine in that position...then I'd say relay. main thing is to listen for the "click" when you turn it on. let me know what you find...

Sorry to hear about that...see if you have any AC shops nearby that have used ones or rebuilt ones before shelling out 1300 bucks...or even one from a junkyard may be worth the trip. best of luck to ya...

SOURCE: AC Compressor clutch

i belive this type of compressor only has one 10 metric bolt in the center, the others should be rivets if they are loose the cluch is gone, but most likelly the only tool you migh need is a snap ring plyers to remove the snap ring that holds the pulley behind the front disc plate, i hope and this help
but if not if i'm wrong then go to autozone or checker and they have this toll kit to replace the clutch and it is call loan tool
the sevice allow you to pay for the tool and take it back for a full refund, in other words loan tool, good luck

SOURCE: ac clutch going out on 93 dodge dakota

If the clutch is noisy from a bad bearing then don't drive far,if the compressor clutch pulley bearing seizes up it will freeze the pulley and the belt will burn off, and you are stuck, if you mean the anything else besides this drive it.

SOURCE: 2000 MALIBU AC COMPRESSOR CLUTCH NOISE. CAN I

Yes you can change the clutch without removing the compressor. Let me warn you if the noise is the compressor it can let metal go through the system and do alot of damage. Then you will have to replace about everything in the system.

A/C works intermittently but is cold as it should be. Seems as though clutch is not engaging.

Is as cold or isn't as cold as it should be ? Can you hear the AC clutch engagement when turning on the AC ?

Why does the compressor for the ac on my 2003 ford focus keep clicking ?

I assume it's because your clutch is engaging and disengaging. Could be from a loose electrical plug to your compressor coil on the compressor. It could be a loose plug to the pressure sensor or a bad pressure sensor because that sensor will shut it off if the car is low on Freon causing low pressure in the system. Could be low on Freon so it's on the edge of having enough pressure to turn it on and then shuts it down again because it dips below the pressure threshold when the compressor kicks in. Could be a bad compressor coil that engages the clutch. Maybe a loose connector to the AC Button in the car or the AC Button is intermittent. Could be an intermittent relay engaging the compressor clutch. That's a good list of what all could cause it and if you end up needing to replace the compressor, I made a video on how I did it.

2002 ford mustang ac will not come on. Problem is intermittent. I have checked the low and high pressure switches and fuses. what else is there to check?

When the ac acts up,test voltage at the ac clutch,if there is voltage(12 volts to 14)then the clutch is the problem, also, try and wiggle the low pressure switch ,to see if it tries to come back on,,,have some one put some ac gauges on the ac system and let the ac run,and watch to see if the low side falls down to 25 psi or lower,if it does, then the orifice tube is stopping up.If this was at all helpful, please rate, thank you.

AC Compressor

try having someone kill the a/c while you check for the noise. if it stops then check further into the compressor where you said you thought it was coming from. It could be the bearings in the compressor clutch going out.
