Cannot find CID sensor at the pats store. Is a crankshaft position sensor and a cylinder position sensor the same? The previous answer from you said the CID sensor is located on the back of the cylinder head on the distributor end of the head. My manual calls that a Camshaft Position sensor. Is that the same as the CID sensor?

Where is the crank sensor on a 1997 Buick riviera and how can you test it

is spark dead (tested) on all cylinders/?? if not you be barking up the wrong tree. (for sure)
no turbo charged, 3.8L V6 right?

USA car, yes?
the CMP cam sensor kills spark DEAD TOO, so why pick CKP?
then scan the PCM for CKP errors P03xx
same answer all cars USA, 1996 up, OBD2 PCM
here is are the steps.
1: scan tool connected. to cars DLC jack 16pin,
pin 16 must have 12vdc key or the fuse to it is blown!!!
2: key on , see scan tool work now and shows talking ok (communicating)'' can even see stored errors (DTC) last run.

3: crank the engine for 10 seconds, or 10 turns of crank shaft. actual.
4: release the key (not off)let the spring push the key back.
5: do not turn off the key even wait here 1 full minute or more
6: scan PCM AGAIN AND SEE THE p03XX CODES, IF YES BINGO
all usa cars same answer, 1996 up is fed mandated OBD2 .
7: the test beside PCM scans above is using a scope to see the output live.

the CKP is 4 pins HALL sensor know for super good signals all the time. (unlike 2 pin mag type)
related.
DTC P1336 (learning ckp failed)
DTC P0336(ckp errors)
DTC P0336
and more codcs for CAM sensor and if cam drive is loose.

all this and more is in the factory service manual./
now where is it, the CKP hunts endless on endless forums
now I will paste the manuals instruction (removal) verbatim.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the serpentine belt(s) from the crankshaft pulley.
  3. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
  4. Remove the right front wheel and tire assembly.
  5. Remove the right inner fender access cover.
  6. Hold the flywheel with J 37096 Flywheel Holding Tool.
  7. Using 28 mm socket, remove the crankshaft harmonic balancer retaining bolt.
  8. Remove the crankshaft harmonic balancer using special tool J 38197 Balancer Remover.
  9. Remove the crankshaft position sensor shield (do not use a pry bar).
  10. Disconnect the sensor electrical connector.
  11. Remove 2 attaching bolts from the crankshaft position sensor.
  12. Remove the crankshaft position sensor from block face"

Code 214 CID circuit failure. Already replaced crankshaft pos sensor. Next it's either the camshaft pos sensor, PCM Relay, or the ECM.

You could also have some wiring problems or an ignition module that has went south too. First check your wiring harness for any signs of fraying, damage of any kind or corrosion. If that doesn't turn up anything, see about getting a module for it.

94fordescortcode214engine light is intermittent

Engine Code 214 is Cylinder Identification Circuit failure. Since it is intermittent check to connector to the camshaft position sensor and make sure its a tight connection and there's no corrosion. If that doesn't fix it the CID may be bad. The Cylinder ID (CID) sensor provides crankshaft position information to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM uses this information during engine start up to begin sequential fuel injection at the correct time. The CID is located in the back of the cylinder head on the distributor side of the engine.

Hope that helps.

CODE 214 95 FORD ESCORT LX 1.9 NO DISTRIBUTOR WHAT THE CODE MEAN?

This code on this vehicle decodes to "cylinder identification circuit fault" or "CID error."
This code is highly vague unfortunately and represents a general sensor and/or sensor circuit (wiring or plug) error.
You didnt mention any running issues or problems. It is important to note that as well as if the code clears itself and the check engine light goes away or if it has been on for a long period (weeks or more of daily commuting). This might help a technician if you decide to bring it to one.

You could clean and inspect all sensor harnesses and plugs.

If the vehicle idles rough or sometimes wants to stall when at a stop (especially when the check engine light is on the most likely culprit is the camshaft sensor which is very inexpensive, and a fairly common problem, but they are a bunch of work to get at.

best wishes!

96 ford diesel f250 7.3 turns over, lots of juice just won't fire

Check for a crankshaft position sensor circuit being open, or the crankshaft position sensor is bad.

Try to spray starting fluid into the intake of the engine, and then if it starts for a few seconds, then it's a bad fuel delivery problem like a fuel pump or clogged fuel filter.

If the glow plugs aren't working then the Diesel won't fire up.

How old is the Diesel in the truck? Is it out of season?

Crankshaft Position (CP) Sensor OPERATION The CP sensor is mounted on the right front of some V8 engines, is a variable reluctance sensor triggered by a trigger pulse wheel (36 minus 1 tooth). Its purpose is to provide the PCM with an accurate ignition timing reference (when the piston reaches 10 degrees BTDC) and injector operation information (twice each crankshaft revolution). The crankshaft vibration damper is fitted with a 4 lobe pulse ring. As the crankshaft rotates, the pulse ring lobes interrupt the magnetic field at the tip of the CP sensor.
TESTING -crankshaft position sensor Using DVOM on the AC scale and set to monitor less than 5V, measure voltage between the sensor Cylinder Identification (CID) terminal and ground. The sensor is okay if the voltage reading varies more than 0.1V AC with the engine running at varying RPM.

Just coded my 1999 Kia Sephia, P0303, and P0336 came up not sure what that means. needs help.

Hello ayltaz: My name is Roger and I Will help you. The first code p0303 relates to a cylinder misfire in #3 cylinder. This could be a bad plug or plug wire. The second code relates to the crankshaft position sensor. You can just replace the sensor or have this problem tested as to replace a sensor because of a code can get real expensive and may not fix the problem. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

Fault code 214

This code is caused by the CID sensor, it is a common fault on Escort OBD 1 engine control The Cylinder ID (CID) sensor provides crankshaft position information to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM uses this information during engine start up to begin sequential fuel injection at the correct time. It's a good possibility the CID is bad or the wiring between the CID and the PCM is open. The CID is located in the back of the cylinder head on the distributor side of the engine systems.
