Where is the timing belt in the engine, I want to look at it.
The timing belt on most cars it usually under a cover and pretty tricky to get to. The Mitsubishi is a front wheel drive car and your engine should be sitting sideways. The timing belt typically will be behind your front engine accessory belts and in front of the engine block. It is responsible for setting the time from the crankshaft and the valve train. Its typically a pretty good job to get to it and some cars you have to lift one end of the engine up to get to it.
If you were wanting to look at it so you can inspect it, to see if it needs replacement, I would say just to go by the miles on the car. Because if in doubt...replace it!! They are a VERY important part of the engine and if it breaks then it could destroy the motor (or a good part of it) and is very expensive to fix after the fact. My rule of thumb is every 70,000 miles replace, anything more and your playing with a loaded gun, because they can break at anytime, and their is no rhyme or reason to it!! Good Luck!!
