SOURCE: change transmission instructions

this is for rear wheel drive only front wheel drives require removing axle shat and dropping tie rod end and lower ball joint to get tranny out. If you start this I will give tork setting when I know what you have as it is a lot of work to type this out.

First disconnect the battery, inside the cab pull shifter boot off and remove snap ring to remove shifter, next get a block to go under engine remove drive line bolts and be sure E-brake is set and block the wheels, next put bolts from driveline into the read differential in order so you will be able to find them next disconnect the two starter bolts from the starter and tie starter up as not to allow the starter weight to hang on the wires. Remove two bolts holding slave cylinder on let hang off the side do not lose the shaft out of slave. Next remove the transmission mount bolt out next pull four bolts out of transmission cross member, next remove 5 bolts out of bell housing now get a baggie and a couple of rubber bands and pull drive shaft slide baggie over the transmission tail shaft and put on rubber band on bag to keep from losing fluid move drive shaft out of the way. Next disconnect the Speedo cable and wiring harness the reverse switch is at the top so will have to drop the tranny down to keep from breaking wire. Once you have a gap between the transmission and engine put block under back of engine slide the transmission out let the front drop down then lift up on rear of transmission and slide the cross member out of the way. Next slide tranny out of the way next remove the 6 bolts on the clutch assembly turning each bolt 1 and a ½ turns each till clutch is loose remove the clutch pressure plate and the throw out bearing, remove flywheel take to machine shop and have surfaced, replace the clutch plate pressure plate and the throw out bearing reinstall in reverse if you see any oil leaks replace seals, also replace rear transmission seal now if you don’t it will leak next after it is back together be sure you put new fluid in the transmission and bleed the slave cylinder.

SOURCE: 1996 nissan maxima clutch sticks to floor

yes, Briong the pedal up where it belongs, then open an fill your master cylider. Then go below and open the bleeder intil the fluid runs/drips steady and free of any bubbles. Do not pump the pedal. When only fluid comes out, tighten/close the bleeder and give it a try. Good Luck. If peal dives again, replace the master cylinder.

I have a 94 d21 Nissan and it sounds like its going into gear but will not pull at all why

If it is a manual transmission, then it could be your slave cylinder.Check your clutch fluid,if low or out then your slave cylinder is leaking and not holding pressure.I have a 85 Nissan 720 4x4 with the 2.4 engine, replaced mine a few times, you can just add fluid and bleed it to get you home. Here's a link on how to replace, you didn't state if you have the 2.4 or 3.0 engine, here's another link on the part.Autozone sells a one man bleeder kit for about 8 bucks,I have one,the cylinder is located on the side of the transmission, easy to replace. How do I bleed a hydrolytic clutch on a 1989 Nissan d21 truck 4x4

There is a bleed valve on the slave cylinder that is on the transmission bell housing. Use an 8 or 10 mm wrench and loosen the valve, then snug it just hand tight. Now have someone depress the clutch pedal. As the pedal is depressed, loosen the bleeder and let air or fluid out. Close the valve as the pedal hits the floor, then repeat until a steady stream of brake fluid comes out of the bleeder as the clutch is depressed.

In many cases, the hydraulic clutch will gravity bleed when the bleeder valve is open. This is especially true if the fluid line from the clutch master cylinder (on the firewall) down to the slave cylinder is not bent up or around any objects, but is pretty much a straight drop down to the slave cylinder. If it won't gravity bleed by just opening the valve, have a helper work the clutch pedal as described. Remember to close the bleeder before letting the pedal up, so that air won't be sucked back in through the bleeder valve.

I have a 98 Tacoma 4x4 with a 5 speed manual transmission. When I go to shift, it wants to keep going instead of disengaging the clutch. Could this mean the clutch needs to be replaced or is it something...

Hi Vicki, got me a 85 nissan 4x4,the silver one. Here's a link to the slave cylinder removal guide, here's what it looks like.First go check your clutch master cylinders fluid,if real low or empty, then your slave cylinder is bad and leaking,it's located on the side of your transmission,2 bolts hold it on with a fluid line.Very easy to replace and bleed,if the fluid is full then it may be clutch problems.

Hard shifting manual transmission - warm/hot

check the clutch operation especially the m/cylinder for failure. The fluid and the master cyl. is probably not disengaging the clutch enough. the rears will not necessarily grate as the synchros are working overtime to spin the gears for alignment because the clutch shaft is still moving under power from the engine.

1997 nissan altima 5 speed manual transmission will not shift, is it the clutch, master cylinder or slave cylinder?

first check to see if you have any fluid in the clutch master cylinder which is mounted by the firewall on l/h side of car. if fluid is inthere, follow the line/hose to the transmission. this line/hose goes to slave cylinder mounted somewhat on the front/top of trans with 2 bolts. that is the slave. have someone push the clutch as you are watching the slave cylinder for operation. it should move with clutch beeing pressed. if it doesnt move than you have a hydraulic issue/leaking master cylinder. if it moved nicely, tha i would be looking at the clutch.

I have a 1993 nissan pickup with manual transmission.my question is how do i bleed clutch fluid and fill transmission fluid?

on the side of the gearbox is a filler plug about halfway up,then fill with EP90 ,bleeding clutch isnt a problem just do it like the brakes ,assistant inside to push and hold pedal down slacken bleed nipple ,then tighten and assistant lets clutch pedal up wait 5 seconds then repeat ,if its really obstinate then using a bar pushed into the slot for the clutch arm pull the slave cylinder right in and then bleed a few pumps and then pull bar out and try pumping the pedal and see what happens
