SOURCE: My epc light keeps coming

I have a 2002 Passat, 1.8L Turbo. I had a problem where my EPC light kept coming on, and I would have a lot of trouble starting my car in hot weather. The EPC light stands for Electronic Pedal Control. When you press on the gas/brake, the pedal doesn't pull a wire like in the past, it's all done by computers. The sensor is saying that somewhere along the path from the pedal, to the brake that something is acting up.

I took my car into the VW dealer nearby and they said the sensor was going bad, and that's why the light was coming on. They informed me that once the sensor went bad, my car would stall, and likely not start again until replaced. I decided to have it replaced (about $250), and I haven't had a problem since.

SOURCE: car dies-hard to start

EPC= electronic pedal control it is a sensor and is located in front of the brake pedal . Depress brake with one hand ,the sensor with the other and release fast. this should disengauge the EPC lock listen for a thunk made by the EPC lock disengaging.

Go to auto zone. They will use a code reader to help you find exact component or components having errors. If its not the EPC.
it sounds like your mass air sensor or the throttle control sensor may be bad. Your gas and air may not be mixing properly thus causing your car to sputter, hesitate, and idle rough. It could be some other thinks like a bad plug or wire etc. Good Luck hope this helps. Please rate me if this helps thank you.

SOURCE: 2001 beetle. epc light on. car won't start.

It sounds like your alternator is not charging. You may want to have it tested and replace/rebuild it if necessary. Many times the problem is that the brushes are worn in the alternator and it stops charging correctly. The brushes are usually attached to the voltage regulator and are replaceable if you have the parts and skill. You can also replace the voltage regulator/brush assembly as a unit.

Many parts stores will test your alternator for free.

If you need more help, post a comment.

Thanks,

Tim

P228C, it has applied exclusively to diesel powered vehicles. It has also meant that the powertrain control module (PCM) had detected a low voltage signal from the control circuit of the electronic fuel pressure regulator, which reflected insufficient fuel pressure.

I would check the fuel relay on this. They always go bad and the symptom is that as you are driving the car cuts out and will not start. Leaves you having to coast to a stop. Problem will only get worse to a point where it will not start again until replaced.

What would make my 2002 VW Passat just shut off when sitting in park?

Hi there:You will need to have diagnostic codes checked which can be done for free at parts store.

We have seen where the vehicle will run rough and have poor throttle response because the wiring right at the throttle body is bad because the wire terminals are loose right at the connector the first thing you will need to do is check the wiring and check the trouble codes stored in the engine control module to see if you have trouble body codes this needs to be the next step .

EPC stands for Electronic Power Control. This is the drive by wire throttle system used in Audi and VW gasoline models. Here is a list of some of the related components:
- Throttle Position (TP) Sensor G79
- Sender 2 for Accelerator Pedal Position G185
- Throttle Valve Control Module J338
- Angle Sensor 1 for Throttle Drive G187
- Angle Sensor 2 for Throttle Drive G188
- Brake Light Switch F
- Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor G70

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

EPC LIGHT WONT STOP in my 02 Jetta

When was the last time you changed your Air filter( A dirty filter can put MAF sensor out of range). How about the fuel filter (Fuel starvation). These filters should be changed every 30,000 miles . It is normal for all of the dash lights to come on if the engine stops running. Is the Jetta a Diesel or Gas. Perform The OBDII scan again to see if current faults are present. Do the cheapest fixes first. Also check oil often. The low oil sensor will trigger engine shut down if more than 1 quart low
