I recently purchased an Acura MDX 2007. After taking the car to the dealer because the HFL button wasn't working the technician said that the whole system has to be replaced (microphone and control module unit) with a total cost of 1,200. Do you know if someone else has seen this issue in his/her car? Do you know if we have any other options to get this fixed?
Super easy to fix yourself. Sit in y our backseat and pull as hard as you can on the air cond controls. Pull it straight back and hard enough to make you think it could break - it won't. You'll see the top pops off easily and the bottom needs a little coaxing, just keep pulling it straight back and massage it when it needs it. Once you get that off, there is a little black box right there with a bluetooth symbol on it. The cable is really easy to remove, if you have to use force, you're doing it wrong. There is a little pressure button on the cable that will release it from the unit. That unit is what needs replacing; this is a common problem among MDX's, apparently. Anyway, you can get this part on ebay by searching for "07-11 Acura MDX HFL" without the quotes. They run about $140, it looks like.
Good luck!
Today, I pulled off the back seat air and entertainment system cover and found the module. After unplugging the module and replugging, it has been working just fine. Will prate if the unit fails and it is not just a plug in problem. The above solution comment was extremely helpful. Thank you so much. btw, I have a 2008 MDX.
update, not prate.
Just came back from dinner and the Hand Free Link was inactive again. It must be the Bluetooth module.
So...after doing all the above, I ordered a module, P/N 39770-STX-A011-M1 for my 2008 Acura MDX with navigation and entertainment, from the acurapartswarehouse.com for $187.45 plus shipping ($13.15) for a total of $200.60. When you pull off the cover, the part number is clearly visible on the module. Plugged in the new one and voila, the Hands Free Link works just fine. So if you think it is worth $200 to have the Hands Free Link, it's not that hard to switch out. Follow the instructions from the earlier comments for pulling off the cover. Good luck.
I just unplugged and replugged the module cable and my HFL came back to life...THANKS!!!

I had the same issue with HFL went dead on me couple days ago. Today 11-14-13 I had oil changed at dealer and Asked dealer and they wanted $180 to diagnostic and use it toward repair cost if $450. Forget it no need. Search posted solution 1. Just 10 minutes ago pull the rear ac console and whola the module is pretty hot. First I unplug the cable then plug the cable back and boom the lady's voice came up. Setup the bluetooth again and wow it works again so I did not have to replace the module yet. My 2008 Mdx is fixed.
Took photo of module but don't know how to insert photo but here's the part number info I got
from 2008 Acura Mdx
Honda P/N 39770-STX-A011-M1
I'd like to add additional information and to clarify few things to answer#2.
After I had reset the HFL, it worked for a little bit then died out. I ends up replaced the battery and stop using HFL until Saturday 8/2/14. I finally found a reasonal pricing sold at Amazon plus shipping came ~$190. Disconnected battery. Installed new HFL box. Bluetooth works like a charm. Also just to clarify before pulling the heater console open ensure to open the center console cover then pull otherwise no gripping space. Anyhow good luck to all.

The TPMS light will be visible in your instrument panel like your parking brake would if activated. The TPMS function is activated automatically once any of your tires are improperly inflated. Furthermore, it will identify which tire needs attention.
