You need a new inst. cluster 250/300$ plus labor
This is a pretty common issue for Trailblazers to have. Here's a link with more information about these GM gauge problems. And where you can purchase replacement parts on Amazon if you want to do the repair yourself. How To Repair My Instrument Cluster
More than likely, the stepper motor that drives the tach has gone bad. There are vendors that repair instrument clusters for far less than a new one, check on Ebay.

In my case, simply removing and reseating the IPC/DIC fuse restored the gauges to full functionality.

on a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer, you have to remove the grill to access the back of the head lights. It takes a good pull (don't be afraid to use a little force). Pop the hood and there 4 metal pieces that slide up and several plastic pieces that pop up. You will see the lips on the metal slides (about an inch in width) and you pull those up to loosen the grill. There are 2 of these slides (one on each far side, almost hidden) that are hard to get your hand into that you might need a screwdriver or something for leverage to slide them up. Then pop up the plastic pieces holding the headlamps in place and with a little force pull the grill off.
Then you can access the back side of the headlamps to replace the bulbs.

Check your dimmer switch on your steering column. Your plug may be loose or not getting a good connection. Your dimmer switch may be going bad as well. The same thing happened on my 1994 Chevy, but the lights never came back on, on mine. I found that the dimmer switch had gone bad. If this is the case, I recommend buying one from your local chevy dealer and spending the extra money. I went through two that I bought through napa before buying a OEM replacement because the napa ones just didn't last.

This model always this problem, usually after about 90,000 miles and the other instruments will eventually follow. There are companies that will repair this for you just use google (instrumentclusters.com) to find them. I was charged 185.00 for the repair... GM wanted over 500.00!
