When a vehicle stops but is still running it produces a lot of heat, since you still feel some cold air from your ac ,it is working, however maybe not up to par or its just not as much as you would like. The reason it feels cooler when you are driving is the ability to get rid of the heat from the motor because the airflow pulls away the heat from the engine and helps the cooling system.

SOURCE: 2005 GMC Sierra heater blowers work fine but only

check the coolant level in radiator. if its low it will only circulate while driving, and not while idling. May also be a bad water pump. See a professional for that.

Check the magnetic clutch is engaged on front of a/c pump, have the motor running, a/c on and fan on high, if the centre hub is static the pump in not switched on, this can happen when the gas pressure gets low.

SOURCE: Air Conditioner Problem

the most common problem here is a defective air temperature control blend door actuator, this is what moves the door that controls air flow across the heater core or the ac evaporator core, to replace this requires u remove the dash assembly.

Why does a/c only blow whil vehicle is in motion?

you have a problem with the heater/a/c controls there obviouly stuck on a/c you will need to strip out the control panel to see why the direction/vent , hot/cold , fan speed controls are not working , before doing this have you checked the fuses as there may be a seperate fuse for the control panel ,if this all checks out take to an a/c specialist as you dont want to mess around with a/c gasses etc

In cold weather heater will not blow warm air unless at idle stopped. when at highway speed blows cold air

check and make sure the radiator is full of antifreeze take off the radiator cap and top off the radiator then take your hand and cover the hole where the cap goes and squeeze the top radiator hose a few times to help it go down that way if there is a air pocket somewhere it will help push it out when you thank your done top off again and replace the cap and try

A/C Blows warm when idle

I can't say much without having the actual code.
When the ac stops blowing cold at idle, the most common reason is not enough air flowing thru the radiator, or the radiator fan is not running and the only air flow is when the vehicle is moving.

High Idle when warmed up. 95 Grand cherokee 4liter. i can let off the gas and the vehicle will accelerate up to 30mph stays at about 1500rpms idling

Hi. Anon.
It sounds like your IACV, ( Idle Air Control Valve), is bad. I would go to the parts store, if you can drive the vehicle and have them hook a scanner up to your vehicle, ( its free) and pull the codes for you. This will give you a better idea of what is happening with your engine. Hope this helps. Let me know.

Is the idle air valve an acceleration problem? It started accelerating it self now that its getting colder. Is it like the choke in older models?

No to both questions. The idle valve is only for idle control, letting in more or less air as idle conditions warrant, to keep engine at proper idle RPM. The old choke would reduce air supply on a cold engine to allow starting with a richer gas mixture. That function is taken over by the computer in injected cars by allowing longer injector pulses to give richer mixtures in cold engines. Once warm, the 02 sensor controls fuel trim through the computer.
By "accelerating itself", do you mean your idle is higher now that it's colder outside? I suppose it's possible if the idle valve is out of calibration, it might cause that. It is computer controlled, so proper diagnosis of the idle control valve requires a multimeter. The throttle position sensor should also be looked at for a high idle. Good luck.

My 2003 Jeep Liberty heater is blowing cold air when idling. Warms up when you hit the accelerator. I also hear a water rolling sound upon take off after idling. Water pump? Heater Core?

Water level perhaps. When you hit the accelerator the water volume increases. Check your water level and make sure that your thermostat is opening and closing properly. Water level I'm thinking
